Used 6-24X rifle scopes

My observation in the $300 used 6-24X scope market, Sightron SII, Weaver V-24, Burris Signature and Bushnell Elite are about equal and the Vortex Crossfire doesn't quite measure up. Have I miss anything? How about the old Japanese Tasco?

About sums it up. I have one of those rare (discontinued) side-focus 6-24X40 Elites, but those hardly ever show up on the used market. FWIW, Weaver has come out with a SF 6-24X42 30mm "European" model; Natchez shows them "on sale" for $200. For that price I'm sure they're all-Chinese, but might be worth a try.
My geezer eyes seem to prefer 24-power magnification over the ubiquitous 20 for groundhog hunting; I'm considering going to Sightron Big Sky 6-24s on all my Varmint rifles. Good as they are they're a bit overpriced, and one might have trouble finding a used one for 300 bucks.

Bill, the old burris signature with the light collector are excellent, and the 4000 Bushnell(Bausch and Lomb) and the 4200 of the same are excellent.

I would hunt these two down, and ebay is your friend.

I got a new model 6-24 crossfire II
Nice and clear all the way to 24
It's no Nightforce and eye releif is fussy at 24 power but it works fine
My vortex hst is nicer but twice the cost
Picked my 6-24 crossfire up for $240 brand new

I have experience with 3 if the scopes on the list.

Owned an older Burris Signature 6-24 with AO in the past. Glass is good but gets a little dark on 24X, elevation and windage adjustment's are pretty mushy feeling but work decent. Wouldn't use the adjustments for dialing in elevation for different ranges. Doubt it would pass a box test very well, more of a 'hold over' type scope once you get it zeroed. Probably why Burris had to put the "Posi-Lock" system on their scopes... Good thing is that Burris warranty is solid and customer service is great. Nothing to worry about if anything happens to the scope.

I also have an older Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40 with AO on an old Ruger M77 Tang 6mm Remington (varmint barrel). Great scope, solid tracking, and good glass that is nice and clear on 24X. Will usually cost you around $300-$350 when you can find them. Good quality for the price, and definitely a better scope than the Burris.

But my favorite is my old Japanese Tasco 6-24x40 with the tall target turrets, AO, and fine cross hair with dot. Best glass of the three scopes in my opinion and adjustment clicks are rock solid with excellent tracking. Glass is crystal clear and bright edge to edge from 6X all the way to 24X. Good eye relief too. Nothing to dislike. Pretty amazing for a 30+ year old optic and the best thing is I only paid $135 for it.
