USA Gunshops that ship to South Africa

Hi Guys.

I need to know if anyone knows of a US gunshop that will ship Bullets and Brass to South Africa. I would like to purchase the above from the US cause premium bullets like Barnes X is very expensive in South Africa.

We pay around $ 1.5 per bullet in South Africa and thus we do not shoot wit them.

Winchester brass for my 243 and 22-250 is around $25 per 100 cheaper in the States.

Regards

Hi Jaco

I am not sure that you fully understand the process of exporting items like bullets, brass, actions, barrels or even some scopes from the USA these days. It is a very complex, time consuming and expensive process, and as a result it will not be viable for small quantities.

Broadly, the process requires you to get a permit to import all the goods in your country, then send that to a firm that is licensed to export these goods from the US. This firm then needs to apply to the US Department of State to export the items. After that, and assuming the export is approved, the goods can be shipped. The cost of these exporting licences have been increased by the US government to a point where it now cost a company tens of thousands of dollars per year just to hold the documentation required to export, so most firms now charge USD$400+ to process the export paperwork.

Then you need to hope there is no problem with shipping out of the US to your country. For example I know of one Australian firm that exported 10 custom rifle actions. The transport company shipped them via Hong Kong, where the entire shipment was seized (not just the actions, everything else in the same container) due to bringing prohibited goods into the country, even though the shipment was only transiting the country. It took a month of negotiations to get the shipment released, and some freight companies will no longer ship firearms related items out of the US for this reason.

I live in Australia and worked in South Africa for a few years. I do export from the US periodically, so if you want to discuss this in more detail, PM me.

I am appalled at what I just read. That is concrete evidence that our commerce dept has got to powerful and are trying to stop export from our country to destroy the import export businesses in the state's and other country's. I had no idea that it cost that much to export gun related products which is a sign of the time's that our current administration's outlook on the firearm's industry is very dim indeed. Thanks Nafta and cafta. Other country's can ship to our country namely china and send all the garbage they can over here for no tariff's to speak of but we try it,then you are impuned. Thanks to a govt that is out of touch with what we need to do to be successful. This is so sad for Jaco, that he has to pay extra premium price's to get what he simply need's.

I believe Mid Way is a lic exporter. They will know if the items you want to order are restricted from delivery in your country. You will need to know if an import lic is required for you to receive those items. Larry in western Ky.

Works the other way around , too. Importing firearms and related items into the US is just as costly. Only the huge conglomerates can afford to do it. Free trade in arms (sporting arms) and ammunition doesn't exist.

jon and shortgrass touched on a topic many of us seem to forget.

It's just how much freedom we truely have, let's be thankfull again even in the midst of all the pessimisim and complaints, that we can go down to the local mom-n-pops corner shop and buy bullets an powder??

We can own guns and shoot them if we haven't broken a simple set of laws.

The way the man at the export office explained it to me; if you are in any type of business, not necessarily firearms related, and want to export ANYTHING, the minimum entry lic begins @$2,350.00 and goes up, depending on the dollar amount in a yrs time thar you send out of country. He made a point that you donot send anything out of country other than a stamped envelope, unless you have that lic.. I just love a government that has my financial interest at heart. Not all of these laws came about because of government greed. Thank the united nations, treaties with other governments, and the patriot act. I don't support much of what the government does by limiting freedoms, I'm all for individual freedom! But, you seem to forget, the tools of our 'hobbie' are lethel. If there were no rules governing the export of these 'tools' who would make sure that those 'tools' weren't used against Americans somewhere in the world? How would you know, for sure, who was getting the items that were sent? A sportsman or someone who would use it against American troops? There are too many, these days, driven by money rather than common sense, and that's not a statement just about Americans, it goes world wide. And, its not just firearms and related items, it's many of those high tech electronics we enjoy here in the USA and much tooling, too. One American life, lost over greed, is too many!

Not in Massachusetts... they can by loading machines, but they have to drive to Connecticut to buy powder, primers, bullets, wads, and shot.

How was it that Ted got reelected so many times? I know he had to doing something good, right?

I've never gotten past the ole bridge trick to understand his value.
I see there is no problem buying cars in Mass. Just gun related items huh? Interesting to see what one calls a weapon.

Maybe I'm in a bad mood again, Jim
