US Rifle Team

Incredible how an under 25 came second!

a little snippet from the final - the pressure was on! It became apparent that young Mitch Bailey was ahead of David on V bulls and Steve Negus required an outer with his last to count in order to win… and an outer is what he scored – it was that hard!

Light winds today with wind building Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is forecast to be strong northerlies.
I'm told in the final the odd 0 appeared which hasn't been uncommon with complete reversals suddenly appearing.
Patience will be key for the Palma if the past patterns continue!

I was told by a competitor the the shoot off was running 3-10 minutes with very quick switches.

It was good to see Oliver end up in 5th, he has worked hard to get there. He leaves NZ and heads straight to the SWN mid range on Wednesday next week. Winds should be light compared to NZ.

It is impossible to explain how much fun we have on the firing line with Oliver every weekend.

Oliver is a consummate competitor. Pretty awesome guy too ;)

I had always heard that the wind in NZ could be gruesome and the scores are certainly confirming it.

To put the conditions down here in perspective, consider this; at the 2015 world championship at Camp Perry, Ben Emms had dropped 1 point in the whole aggregate going into the top-10 final. On Friday here at Trentham in the last 1000-yard stage, the winning score out of 300+ shooters was a 69 out of 75.

This range’s reputation is well-earned.

Really impressed with the daily updates from the GB Palma team. They do a nice job marketing the team.

Day one done. USA in second place 22pts behind AUS.

GREAT JOB! Great performance on the 1000yd line!

If they keep this up tomorrow, they will get at least the silver.

The Aussies are really hammering! It's going to be hard for anyone to catch them at the rate they're going. Of course this is their shooting season and they shoot here a lot but that doesn't take away from a great performance. Really proud of the US team after the first day!

Little to no wind at 800 this morning. Looks like we can't out coach the Aussies and we can't out point them. Now what, hang on to second? Oh well, 2 more lines to shoot. Never quit!

mornings can be quite still this time of year - lulls you into a false sense of security when the fickle winds come through in the afternoon. I think the OZs will have the measure of the conditions this afternoon...but can the gap be closed?
