US Palma Team Selection

I heard they will not let Bob shoot because he shoots a 223. The ISSF will not let the 223 on that range in New Zealand, even though it is allowed by the rules.

Who did you hear that from? The ISSF has absolutely nothing to do with Palma, or the long Range world championships. Regardless of what the sanctioning body or host range says, the US Palma Team shoots .308. Having 15 team members shooting .308 and one shooting a .223 does not make things easy on the coaching staff, and would add a lot of needless complications.

Before this gets out of hand let me speak to this.

1. "No Bob Gill??? What gives?"
I was disappointed not to have earned a place on the Palma Team. So I asked Palma Team Management a similar question and it was answered promptly. " It all boils down to shot speed". My shot process does not fit the Teams firing plan. I don't like it, but I RESPECT the decision.

2. "Having 15 team members shooting .308 and one shooting a .223"
While the ICFRA rules allow a .223, the Match Conditions for the WLRC, The Palma Match and all other ICFRA tournaments exclude the .223, (not many knew this, myself included).

3. I was not invited to Canada with the National Team.
See #1 above.

4. It is not that I can't shoot a .308.
I recently asked a National Champion why he didn't shoot his .308 XTC, he answered, "my 6XC has superior ballistics and less recoil". That happens to be the exact reason I shoot a .223.

Now, if we want to discuss Shot Process, ICFRA, Ballistics and Recoil, let's not muddy the waters here.

Go USA Palma!

Bob C. Gill

Well, it surely isn't because you can't shoot! Maybe work on a .308 for 2023 but in the meantime keep hammering away with the .223!
