More info, as I stated in the OP, both ends of the box were taped with clear packing tape. It looked like a 3 year old did the taping. Box was damaged on one end. Boyds does not tape their boxes. The stocks are stapled into self locking boxes. The mystery object weighs right at 2#. About a pound short of the stock I ordered.

Got a box from Boyds that was supposed to have a stock in it for an airgun build. I had a sinking feeling as I peeled off a bunch of packing tape off a damaged box end. I opened the box and this is what was inside:

I don't have a clue what the flock this is. Anybody know what it is?

The receiver doesn't make a claim, the shipper has to start a claim.
So you need to contact Boyds first..UPS won't start a claim from a receiver of damaged goods.
As Deadeye posted (sounds like he's worked for UPS before)
This is what happens, the wrong part matched his package.
A lot of companies are not putting invoices in packages anymore, so
they had no idea what was in it.
The stock might have been lost before its made it to the building.

Shipped a stock via USPS from MD to Washington state. Tracking had it in Puerto Rico. Go figure.

When shipping the volume of parcels that UPS, FedEx and USPS handle there are going to be some issues. We see more shipping issues now more than ever because with shipping and other industries it seems there is a huge lack of pride in doing the job correctly. Add, that companies no longer care about the customer and you have the disaster we have now. Mike T 49 paid for a service and did not receive that service. He upheld his end of the deal. The shipping company should bend over backwards to make it right but they probably won’t and if they do make it right they will probably make it a PITA. It’s almost like collusion within the shipping industry but instead of the pricing it is taking responsibility for damages or loss. I guess they look at it as if no one is paying we don’t have to. They collect money for insurance they never intend to pay. Someone should sue the whole darn lot of them for fraud. It seems doing the right thing is a thing of the past.

I agree with the sentiment. But I also think nothing will change until some other company comes along that will not only do it better, but cheaper. Most people are more interested in cost than anything else.
I work in the materials department of a large company. Some of the stuff that arrives looks like it fell out of the truck at highway speeds. It doesn't help that one of the biggest suppliers will put 50 or more pounds of stuff in a thin, light-duty box. Above my pay grade to make any changes. Astonishing.

Just call Boyd’s and send them the photos. I’m sure they will handle it to your satisfaction. In any event, you can’t handle it with UPS. Only the shipper can file a claim.
