UPS Transfers Package to Local Post Office for Delivery?

What the hell is going on here when you have something shipped UPS, and UPS takes it upon themselves to transfer it to local USPS mail for delivery? Why did I pay extra for UPS, when in the end I'm getting USPS style service?

Ordered something from Midway, paid extra for UPS... If I had wanted my package lost, I would have sent USPS in the first place....

Is this widespread, or an isolated incident..because UPS is so overwhelmed...?

That has been going on in lots of places for a while now..
Most all the stuff being delivered is on the same plane anyhow..
The UPS guy said if my package was the only one coming out here, he would drop it off at the PO and have them deliver it....
Just some agreement between them from what I know..

Used mostly in rural areas where the post office goes anyway and UPS doesn't have to send a truck. MidwayUSA even lists it as an option for shipping now.

I bought 1000 bullets a few weeks ago from Midway. UPS delivered the box to my PO, busted and half of them scattered on the floor.

I asked the post master what was going on, she said the PO sold all of there planes to UPS and this was part of the agreement.

And since I've always been a stickler for fast shipping, we're working hard to get it out quickly. quote from Larry Potterfield...

I guess the key words in Larry's quote is, "..get it out quickly..." means get it out of his store quickly. Not get it to you quickly.

I'm going to send him a revision. It's going to go something like this. "...working hard to get it out quickly, and get your money quickly...and don't give a rat's ass how long it takes to get to you...."

It actually works quite well for all concerned. You are going to pay shipping regardless. UPS can get the package to a mail facility, transfer it to the USPS to take to your local post office, to be delivered by your letter carrier. Generally it cuts at least one day off the trip. If you signed on for e-mail tracking you will see an estimated delivery date get moved up one day sooner as a general rule should this change of carriers take place. Additionally UPS does not deliver on Saturday so if the transfer was made to the USPS Friday you could get it Saturday.
I don't work for (nor ever have) for either so I have no agenda. The system seems to work for me better than ever.

What aircraft did the USPS own?

USPS has never owned and operated their own airplanes. Priority mail has always been sent via Commercial Airlines, but now they are working closely with both UPS and FedEx.

Had several shipments arrive at the local P.O. from FedEx and UPS, the packages were then delivered to my street by the USPS.

Works for me, no problems. I really don't care how they do it.

Tracking number says it was to be delivered today, but in accutallity it was delivered to the postal service today. I have seen two UPS trucks go by that could have deliverd today as promised, and one USPS truck that delivered a whole mailbox full of junk mail. But no order from Midway. When I pay for shipping from UPS, I want shipping from UPS! Not who the hell ever they decide to give it to. Maybe they ought to contract UPS to deliver the junk mail that I get everyday, then USPS would have more time, and would be a better option...

That's where I was going with my 'What acft has the USPS owned'.
Actually carrying the mail has/is a very lucrative contract for any airline to have. Freight is what pays the bills not passengers.
And like you I don't care who brings it. Damage....another story altogether.

When you are ordering from Midway there is an option in the checkout procedure including prices for how you want your order shipped. If you want it shipped by UPS, choose UPS and that is how it will be shipped. UPS ground is a little more expensive than USPO. If you don't make a shipping choice Midway will choose for you, which is usually the least expensive. Ray

Stuff all your junk mail in there postmarked self addressed envelopes and send it back stuffed every time..

They've been doing it here for a while and it works well. I was home one day when the mail carrier dropped off my UPS package at the door. Checked the tracking number with UPS and it showed that the package was delivered within a few minutes of the dropoff, so UPS tracking is updated by the mail carrier.

It's a product called SurePost. Midway does use it and I haven't had any problems but I just had a rotten apple out of that barrel. The PO has its share of problems but this time UPS was the issue, not the Post Office. Essentially, UPS picks up a bunch of packages and takes them to a Postal Sorting facility close to the buyer then the PO does the delivery. I bought some stuff from Lands End and they sent it SurePost. UPS decided that it was not a deliverable address then sent me a card to the same "undeliverable" address telling me to do a 50 mile round trip to pick it up. Lands End tried three times to give them a UPS-able street address but they just ignored all of that and sent the package back to Lands End.

It used to be called UPS basic, that's when UPS delivers to the post office and then the post office delivers to the end user. It may work great in some places but not for me. It takes an extra day for me to get my stuff from Midway. As long as I order by 5-6pm I will get it from UPS the next day. Yes, less than 24hrs. The tracking number from UPS gives you a delivery date for when it hits the post office, not my door. For me it's generally only a little cheaper than "UPS GROUND" which UPS delivers to me in person.

USPS.

One small transistor - $2.07 postage in a small envelops - 95 miles, in 7 days.

1/2 miles an hour. I walk faster than that...

... backwards!!

Sure post is one but there is another, mail innovations. About the same thing. I should see if brownells ships anything using speedee delivery as they are usually half the price of UPS but only operate in the midwest in a few states

It must depend on what part of the country you live in. Larry has shipped UPS/USPS to me twice. Both times it took 7 days for delivery whereas when shipped straight UPS I get my ground shipments in 3 days. When I called and asked what was going on I was told it's less expensive to ship small pkgs this way. When I pointed out that it cost me the same whether it was delivered in 3 days or 7 days all CS said was "We don't guarantee delivery times on ground shipments".

The only time I shop Midway now is if I absolutely need something and they are the only ones who have it in stock.
