Upgrading cleaning supplies

I've always used cheap cleaning supplies due to not shooting often. I will be shooting 223 and 6br what I'm going to pick up a bore guide, a clean cleaning rod and attachments. Any recommendation of advice for a newbie.

I've been using Tipton carbon rods and like them a lot. A nice bore guide is great, less worry of damaging the back edge of the chamber.

I have used Bore Stix for a long time and I are really pleased with them. Especially the cushion handles when you have to really scrub a barrel.

You may want to look into the "Tipton patch catcher" or similar to keep the oily goo from staining the floor at home or patches from flying around the range. Buy a rod longer than necessary ( you can't stretch one AFTER you've bought it) so the handle doesn't hang up on the comb. Get a rod guide with O-rings to prevent cleaner from flowing back into chamber or trigger mechanism ( not absolutely necessary but helpful). ............ Personally I prefer coated rods (Dewey) to protect rifling. I've had Tipton's that came to me with a bow in them. .............. Pick your solvents carefully to remove both copper and hard carbon fouling. ONE chemical for each type of fouling. I get excellent results with Butch's products including their triple twill patches.... When cleaning your rifle level it so chemicals flow toward the muzzle NOT the chamber. Have fun

Pro-Shot coated rods (smaller diameter rod handles clear my F TR stocks high comb), Patches (best ever used since the 90's), and bore brushes. They really can't be beat !! Lucas bore guide or equivalent (if such a thing), like stated above solvents for independent use. I prefer Pro-Shot Products !! ISSO for the carbon ring with one size bigger nylon bore brush.

I use Dewey Coated Rods with the aluminum jags and brush adapters to avoid copper contamination when I use a copper remover.

I use Shooters Choice with a bronze brush to remove carbon fouling. After cleaning with Shooter's Choice I recently started using Bore Tech C+2 Copper Remover which does a good job of removing copper without the smell.

A bore guide is a must. I used the Dewey bore guides.

I use Shooter Choice bolt lube to lube the bolt lugs.

I like the Sinclair or Dewey no harm brass core brushes for carbon fouling and the Dewey or Bore Tech non brass core nylon brushes for Copper removal.
