Update for my 6.5x47!!!!

Just thought that it may be of interest to some of you 6.5x47 devotes??,

After my succes at the 600yrd benchrest comps earlyer this year,
http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/?s=darrel+evans&submit=Search
I thought that i would enter into the 100yrd UKBRA comps that are run throughout the summer here at the Diggle ranges and really test this rifle out???.
Rifle, Accuracy international AW, Border archer 8.5 twist barrel
Load, 130g jlk bullets,
38.3g of varget
cci450 primer
First comp of the year, groups were not to shabby and did manage to get second place and i also got a small group patch for that day,,,,
This seemed to be the norm for the next tree comps??, second place and a small group patch for the day????.
I did find that my setup was not as good as it could of been, sand in the front bag was to soft, that was an easy fix just add a bit more,,,,
I did not notice untill later after i had done a few comps that my new brass was not giving very good groups??, i always take two boxes and just did not notice or relise untill it was to late??, back to using the old brass that had been reloaded at least 15 times, and yes i got some really small groups,,,
Barrel has now over 2500 round count and still going strong,,,,,
I think that the new brass really need less neck tension untill it has had a few firings under its belt??, this is just my thoughts on the matter,,,, perhaps some one might like to add there comments on this,,,,,
Anyway here are a few of the groups that got me quite a few small group patches,,,,

Hey Darrel, nice shooting as ever.

HoytFlinger - I have replied to your email and yes I do ship to the US, quite often in fact 8)

That comparator is one of the best tools that i have got,
For the rest of you guys, i have just managed to sort a link out??
http://shootingshed.co.uk/oscom/index.php
The comparator is made to your case size so the fit is perfect and to asure perfect alignment it is made in three sections two parts that fit on to your vernier, third being a central tube that is removed after you have tightened up the other twohalfs,, perfect alignment of the comparator and very precise measurements canbe obtained,,,,
Not only does he make these two tools, but a wide range of other items as i am sure you will see for yourself if you would like to visit his web site,,,,,,

All that i would like to say is that i like them and use them alot,, not only that but David will make bespoke items to order,,,,
Any thoughts as to why my new cases are not performing??????
All measurements are the same except for the inside neck diameter,,,
old cases are ..263
new cases are .264

All that i can think of is case spring back???

Darrel ;)

Hi Darrel, just sent an email to the shooting shed re some parts I want especially the rear bag rider for my A/E 260 with 31 inch border 5R barrel which I am shortly changing to a 26 inch barrel from sporting services, probably next week, I have a Rem in AICS stock with 30 inch Trueflight barrel in 6.5x47 already so don't need another one, anyway the 260 shoots better but has now had 3000 rounds put through it and needs changing, the strange thing is that I can always get lower ES,s from the 260, normally under 10 fps, the smaller case 6.5 x 47 ES,s are around 15-18 fps, in this gun I use Rel 17 with 130gr bergers, can't get hold of the JLK's. dooley (UK near Bisley)

Hi Paul, you won,t be disappointed with your rear bag rider ;), but also have a look at the front bag rider that he makes truly a work of art???
Not had a 260 myself, does however sound very interesting, but illbet not a lot between the two???
I have had my es and SD down to single figures using re15,,, but the varget was nowere near but gave me the best groups???,,,
My 6.5x47 is coming up to 3000 rounds and still as you can see going very strong???,don't know how many rounds the barrel will go up to??, but i think that when it is toasted i will just re barrel with the same again, border archer barrel from g Clark at sporting services.

Darrel,

Very nice groups. Impressive

David at Shooting Shed also produces a firing pin protrusion gage who is a marvel of accuracy and simplicity. Should be in every serious shooter toolbox.

Hi darrel, thanks for the imfo re brian fox, will try him, have you looked at the bullet pointing kit made by the shooting shed, looks interesting,
nice groups by the way, I'll have to spend more time with my 6.5x47.
