A scary time + glad the prognosis is good.
My understanding - from a friend who had a major stroke - is that a drug - TPA? administered ASAP will negate /stop much of the damage.
He is in great shape at 75 yrs old. Amazing.

Yes - TPA is a drug - Tissue Plasminogen Activator or Alteplase with brand name Activase.

I have dispensed a ton of it.
