Since 911 and the reorganization of the BATF where the Tax side stayed with Treasury and the Firearms and Explosive side went with Justice. There have been many regulatory changes made by these agencies and our democratically controlled congress and senate. They have also gotten the State department involved and the definition of Gunsmithing and the definition of firearms manufacture have gotten very convoluted. Many of the services done in the past were losely regulated and not considered to be firearms manufacture. Now what was not regulated or was seen as gunsmithing it is now seen as manufacturing. The Federal government,State Department) now requires all firearms manufactures,as per the BATF definition) to register with the state department and pay a fee that was about $1,800.00 and now those fees have been raised up to $2,250.00 to $2,450.00 or 4% of the retail value of any fire arms exported. This is going to effect barrel makers, action makers, trigger makers, scope base and rings makers, etc. You as the consumer are going to have these cost passed on to you as part of doing business.
These changes are just the begining of a series of new regulations, taxes, that the shooting consumer is going to see.
If you don't believe me just ask any action, barrel, gun part maker. Ask any vendor who sub contracts with them including those who do finish,coating/bluing)work.
I ask everyone of you to contact your congressman or senator. Ask them why there are not simular requirements on restrictions on all exports and why just firearms and thier parts are being singled out. It seems the going trend or IEDs are cars, trucks and busses. Should they not fall under the same restrictions? If these other industries started being taxed like the firearms industries they too would be up in arms, no puns intended. I have been told there will be a bill introduced in Congress on March 22, 2009 to up the FET on ammunition by 500%. I have been told the agenda is to tax the firearms industry the same way they have taxed the tobacco industry. It is ironic the BATF,and now the TTB along with the State Department is taxing both of these industries.
The governmant is going to regulate and tax the firearms industry out of business. We have lost the manufacturing infastructure to the third world countries of the world. Next we are going to run our firearms industry out of business.
