Unknown .22 action tenon

I picked up this nice 1.45” .22 rail gun barrel (apparently) recently, but I don’t know which action this smallish tenon would be for.

Amy ideas?

I don’t have a bare action and the economics taking apart a good gun to recut this barrel for, swing in favor of exploring what fits it as it. It’s good looking barrel with nice work done.

Do you have dimensions or a way to get them? The tennon looks like turbo or clone type stuff at 0.750"-16 threads and horizontal extractor slots but that doesn't say much without the tennon length or verifying the dimensions on thread size. 0.750"-16 is used across a lot of the custom actions over the years.

The face to the shoulder is really close to 1.0 inch in length. It’s looking like 1.038” - ish.

The face width is indicating .6455”.

The OD of the threads measures .7465” which probably is in fact a nominal .75”.

It’s about .86” from the shoulder to the front of the threads.

I bet it was one of the 10x (Turbo clone) actions, either the X3L or 60 degree two lug action. They were a bit long on the tennon length as compared to some of the other stuff out of the box and not super consistent in length by the time they were cleaned up. Unless you are very lucky or get the action it was machined for, you probably will not get out of having to do some minor machining to the barrel to make it fit something else. I would hate to know that I had to find one of the 10X actions now without buying an entire rifle. Also would not have a clue as to what the smith or smiths had done to it in terms of tennon length and thread dimensions over time either.

Newer Turbo's typically are in the 1.006" - 1.008" length range out of the box but on the same thread and extractor pattern so a person could possibly remove a half turn worth of length (about 0.031") and get things to line back up with the existing cuts. This may require lengthening the chamber and definitely will require some work at the extractor slots to get them back to depth. Also you may end up with a funky HS number but it is very hard to say without having it all in hand.

A new 2500x or Trident would be easily available to buy and will screw onto that thread but also have the shorter tennon length very similar to the turbo's. The biggest difference here would be that the extractors are at 18 degrees above centerline so completely new slots/butterfly slots would have to be cut to make it work. This is in addition to the other machine work listed for the turbo adaptation.

Dimensionally it looks like a 3/4-16 tennon (which is common these days), what is throwing me is the single extractor cut.

Most 3/4 tennon BR actions use two (an extractor and ejector), can't think of a modern action with a 3/4 tennon that uses only one?

Or is another opposed in this picture I can't make out clearly??

Tad, thank you. It was out of the Phoenix area, I believe a recent estate to store deal. I won’t be able to pair it up.

I don’t really want to orphan a current actioned barrel, to then start over with this.

Any suggestions (guys) on sourcing one of those actions that might require just some minimal machining?

I has two cuts. Only one was visible. 9 and 3 positions.

For a new turbo, I am not sure to availability or if one can be bought right now. If it can, Jason at https://www.cmsgwv.com/ was my last known contact to get one.

Manufacturer website: http://www.turboaction.net/

For a 2500X or Trident, they are readily available at either
KSS: https://www.killoughshootingsports.com/benchrest-c12/benchrest-actions-c15
or
PQP: https://precisionqp.com/

Both brands are offered in a 2 or 3 lug. Tennon dimensions will be the same either way, just have to make a decision to which you would prefer. I tend to favor the 2 lug geometry for the longer bolt throw and easier bolt lift but both are very acceptable. Both also take 700 pattern triggers on a hanger as well.
