Unertl Rifle Scopes

Does anyone know if the Unertl Rifle Scope Company is totally out of business? The last link I had for them is no longer good. :'(

I would almost swear his son or grandson is still custom building a few.I would keep posting till you get an answer.Check with the guys that do repairs, they would know.

The remains of the company was bought out by a retired Marine Colonel (?) about 5 years ago, the repair shop in Mars Pa. ( 1 hour North of where I live) closed down & what was left was moved to Las Vegas. From there on it all gets "confused". I do know they were making 10x scopes for some Military use, and another 1911 45 Auto was to be introduced. Boyd: The 724-625-3810 was the number of the repair shop at 103 Grand Ave. in Mars, the place I would go when needing work. Frieda Shaw and Chuck Skiles were the only 2 working there 'til the shop was closed, about 4 or 5 years ago.

Sometimes I feel like I was born way too late. I'm 33 yrs old and when I talk to some of my shooting friends, all of which are close to twice my age, I feel like I missed out on some really good stuff. Like the old 40x and 722 actions, the Unertl scope, and what really gets me is when they tell me what they paid for this stuff back then. It gives the appearance that shooting was much more affordable 30+ yrs ago! I still like to listen to them talk about the good old days though!

Prices from my copy of an old Unertl "green" catalog: 20x54 spotting scope, $74. 100mm Team Spotting Scope, $450. 2" target Scope $145. 1 1/2" Target scope $105. 1 1/4" target scope $90. 1" Target scope $67. 2" Ultra Varmint $132. 8x or 10x Vulture Hunting scopes, from $82 to $98. But these were also the days when Colt Gold Cups, 1911 45 autos, Series 70's were selling for $125. And premium 101 octane Gas (Amoco) was .35 per gallon. Ya, but we were working for $3.50 an hour.

Is there any place to find out what older Unertl scopes are going for as i have a 20X target dot I'm not using any more or a place to find out when it was made

nfhjr62: Let me have the serial number & I may be able to find it on my list of production dates, that begin in the mid 50's.

GunBroker is the place to sell them, listed a BV-20 and it sold for $975 + shipping with a 7 day Auction.

Yup stuff was a lot cheaper 35+ years ago, I worked 3-11 during High School for a Shoe Factory, Union pay scale and made $1.85 per hour when I started, worked 60 + hours a week and gas was $.65 a gallon.

I understand what your saying Frank :)! Dollar for dollar things probably aren't that much different now versus then. However, gas is approaching $4.00/gal and I don't make $40.00/hour ;)! I know I know, everyone likes a little ass but, no one likes a smart ass ;)!

last i read or heard was the vegas area and they were building conventional style scopes internal adjustments . a fellow by the name of bob parsons located in ohio does repairs for the early unertal scopes .the way i understand he bought up most of the parts . you can find him by searching the net . he does purchase them and might be able to give values .i hope this info is current and is of some help . T.R.

Someone, somewhere produces them with the internal adjustments.......as they are still in use by the USMC on .50 Barrett's in the sand box..........

I know your talking about Unertl scope BUT....
There were others also. Lyman, and fecker. The unertl scope has some of the best glass.
I read some where that it was called philadelphia glass.
It was supposed to be the best available .
I have used both LYMAN and Unertl In Small bore years ago.
The thing that amazed me was the clearity. The 16 power
was so clear You could see 22rf bullet holes at 100 yds with little trouble.
