Understanding freebore in detail.

I know what freebore is and I have SOME MINIMAL understanding of it's function. But I have NO understanding of the specific criteria used in specifying freebore for a specific application and bullet. Can anyone point me to some documents that will teach me the details of freebore?

I found this quote but I do not understand it completly - "the freebore diameter must remove ALL of the land material".

Hi Fitter! I've had the same questions after encountering a .223 free bore so tight it wouldn't allow a test bullet to reach the lands. I don't have the ability to post a link........... You can Google "rifle chamber free bore" and find links to this site & also tech data on length & diameter considerations. Good stuff! Look for the "Memilanuk" post to this site also free bore specs found there. Hope this helps
