undecided

i'm trying to decide if i want a fixed power scope or a variable power. it will be used in comp. out to 500 yrds. right now i have a swift 8-32 on my 6br. works very well but i wanna move up in optics. i want at least 32 to 36 power. been looking at weaver or burris black diamond. i know big differance in prices but is burris worth it? please all the opions will be appricated thank you

I am sort of in the same boat. I'm wrapping up a Savage Precision Target Action, 28" McGowen bull barrel, Shehane laminate thumbhole stock, Ken Farrell 1-piece base, Burris Signature Zee rings in 6BR. I've pondered for ages on how to scope it. I have decided to go with a Weaver T-36 fixed. All I will ever do is shoot paper with this gun and I want long range capability. I like the idea of fewer moving parts in a scope, especially in a lower priced one. Just seems less likely to have issues. I have talked to some buddies that have high-magnification variable power scopes and for the most part, they pretty much leave them cranked up anyway. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Hope this cuts down the time you spend pondering so you can get to shooting!!

Either of the 2 scope you mentioned will serve you well, but a fixed power can be a problem if mirage is heavy and you can't dial it out...
If I couldn't come up with enough money to buy a Nightforce, I would and have no problems with a Black Diamond from Burris to fill the bill....
The new Sightron S3 is also something to consider......

trust me if i had enough money i would not even think of buying nuthing else but a nightforce br probably 12-42. that means LOTS of overtime. in my area we do a lot of groundhog shoots. we shoot for points not groups at a groundhog target with rings. in case you didn't know. i like fixed power but i agree with preacher. thats what is making me go towards variable. thanks guys.

I have both T-24 and T-36 Weaver scopes and find both work very well out to 1000 yards. My wife has a NightForce 12-42 NXS with the very small target dot and she shoots at 42x all the time.

Sounds kinda' voodoo, but we just shoot "through" the mirage.
