Uncharted waters

Gentelmen,
I have always bought and sold rifles mostly bought and have accumulated more than I can shoot, in fact many I have not shot. Life has let me know it is time to part with many of these rifles. I am needing some advice on selling them. Should I do it one by one on this site like I have done many times or is there someone who deals in collections. Or a consignment type deal.
Thanks
MRO

I'd list them on this site, one at a time and use the search function to get a baseline price- both of those items will really make some people on here mad, but what will really blow their minds is you selling without being a contributor to the site.

This is a hard time for you.
I say one at a time ,get the best Price possible.
I know for me my Toys each and everyone has given me a little joy.
Saying good bye is Hard.

The best of Luck
Don

I would opt for maybe 1-2 at a time. Listing too many could cause a feeling of rushing things and possibly get low-balled on some of your stuff.

Depends on your tolerance for the seller / buyer hassle dynamic. A friend of mine decided to get out of the shooting / hunting game since he was moving into an assisted living facility and wanted the most expedient way to unload his guns.

He had a sizeable amount, somewhere between 20 to 25 rifles, pistols and shotguns. Cabelas bought the whole bunch. They sent a rep to his place, completed the paper work, and hauled it away. Granted he didn't get the best price but it was all done in one day.

PS: Almost every gun I ever sold I later regretted. Make sure you really want to get rid of the ones you sale.

Just a couple of options, though I vote for selling them one at a time:
1. Donate some to the NRA Foundation. It's a 501c3 and you could get some tax credit from it. Not to mention helping to support the next generation of shooters.
2. If you want to get rid of 'some' of them at one time, check out someone like Rock Island Auction.
3. Depending on the types of toys, you may try Gun Broker. You set the starting bid and can set the reserve on each firearm.
4. If you know a young shooter, give one to them and mentor them.

+1 on this post..... especially #4.

It is hard to part with some of them though.:(WD

Another option: If you have a good relationship with a LGS or another FFL that lists or can list on gunbroker, you may get the best price as you are advertising to a larger audience than a site such as this. The flip side of that is the cost of having another party preparing the ad copy and time involved posting and answering questions. Good luck with your sales.

Gunbroker gets a lot of exposure for sure, my gunsmiths wife has sold some of mine on there for 10%. Maybe you can find someone out there that will do this as it takes all the headache out of it

AND -- If you can afford it, don't overlook the opportunity to place a few firearms in the possession of the "just right" person who will use and cherish it like no one else.

I've got quite few guns which I'd love to see in the right home, to be appreciated by someone who might not really be able to afford them. This someone won't have to be family -- more likely friend or even friend of friend, co-worker, or as mentioned, someone to be mentored.

I've had this favor done to me, and I'd like to pass it on. jd

Anytime you consign a gun, it's 10% minimum, doubt the gun broker fees will come out of that 10% either. !0% of money collected, even though selling a 3K gun may be less work than cheaper one.

Just what we need, another way to make people feel like second class citizens. If I could afford to be a contributor to this or any of the other sites I frequent, I wouldn't be selling any guns. I'd love to be able to afford to contribute; then I could afford a RMEF membership, and I wouldn't have to be saving up for a range membership. If members are going to be required to be contributors in order to sell, an "unwritten rule" is a completely BS way to do it. Just cowboy up and quit pretending it's a free forum, and let the common folks find another place to hang out. Who needs 'em anyway.

Put them on here! I want a chance at some of your used toys! you have too many nice ones I know I will end up snagging one of them.

Do you actually think asking the OP or any one else for that matter to contribute $20 for a Silver membership or $50 for a Gold to sell potentiality thousands of dollars of rifles is unreasonable?? Really??

I'm sorry if hard times are upon you but if someone is making money off the site and complaining it's not free they need to rethink things.
