Ultrasonic cleaner

Going to buy an ultrasonic cleaner and looking for some advise. I have looked at the Lyman, Horady and some industrial units on eBay. Would like input on the Lyman and Hornady. Also if I go with a different brand does the watts or Hz(40,50,60) make a difference? Any info will help and thanks in advance.

I have the Lyman, it works great, no problems and everything comes sparkling clean from it.

using it to clean my suppressor and it comes out like new after one cycle.

I originally had a Chicago Electric from Harbor Freight, which worked fine, but with a maximum run time of 8 minutes at a time, it was a bit of a pain. I finally invested in this guy:

It does long run times, adjustable temp control, and I was able to run 250 pieces of 6 Dasher (6BR) brass though it at one time. Took about an hour and a half to get them totally clean. They won't be as shiny as a SS system, but they are just as clean and the ability to do larger batches in a shorter amount of time is worth it.

It's also larger enough for moderately sized gun parts (actions, supressors, brakes, etc...), which is a nice bonus. And it cleans the crap out of my wife's ring which, of course, is why I got it approved... :-)

$345.00?????? six times more than harbor frieght!!!! the thing should give you a 'back rub' and serve 'cold beer'!!

habu :-X

I've had an L&R for close to 25 years, it's still doing it's job every time I turn it on.....a commercial model is the way to go, well worth the money in the long haul.

This one is a good size that I found aon a quick search of ebay:

6 times more expensive- 10 times more useable. It's all relative dude. If sitting in front of a timer hitting restart every 8 minutes is your thing, then cool. I've got better things to do.

The L&R is great, powerful, and you can throw your hand guns in it for a fast clean up. Only way to clean a pistol. Brownells also sells the units. :)

I bought the EXACT unit Jay Chris bought. I had the Hornady.

There is NO comparision between the two. The Sharpertec exceeded my expectations!

The sale price is definetly worth the investment!

Have you considered the stainless steel cleaning method? I returned a Hornady Magnum Ultrasonic. I've been using stainless steel for about 2 years now for my F/TR ..308 brass. There's no comparison. Perfect every time.

Charlie, I use both!

Just depends what shape my brass is in as to which one I choose to clean with!

The UltraSonic cleaner I have is fast and cleans excellent. If my brass is full of carbon and very dirty, it goes to the SS cleaner!

;)
