22-250 for match shooting?

Many dont beleive me but i had a 22-250 that shot berger 52gr varmint and target bullets with reloader 15 just as good as a 5k bench gun... one holed at 300 all the time. It was a dang laser!!! I sold it to my father in law recently to fund more barrels and changed to the 22-250AI... the 22-250 is by far one of my favorite rounds... idid get a 6xc, 6br, that 250AI and a 308 in this week tho so it may have some competition... we will see in time... but so far the 22-250s my fav of all time...

I've got a standard 22/250 that shoots 90 gr. Sierra HPBT that would work just fine! Has 1-7" twist Douglas barrel...heavy contour! Favorite load is 35.5 grs. H4350 with F210M primers.

53 vmax has the highest bc, with a 22 thats what i would look for in a 14 twist, kinda limited in choices.

Most likely won't stabilize. Supposedly need a 12 twist for those.

1:7's on the edge for the 90 Sierra; folks shooting them in service rifles generally opt for 1:6.5. Understanding that velocity can be a substitute for faster twist within a certain range, that could account for what you're seeing down range with that 22-250! I just have to wonder how long it'll continue to shoot well, given the amount of powder you can load behind 'em.

The Hornady 52 grain AMAX shot well for me when I had a 14 twist 22-250. I used Varget at the time, but would go with IMR 8208 XBR or CFE 223 (which I currently use in my 12 twist 22-250 with 53 VMAX's), given what is available now. You should be able to find accuracy north of 3800, with either powder, from a 24" barrel, with the option to back down to the next node between 3500 and 3600.

The 50 grain VMAX is also a good choice, but wasn't quite as accurate as the AMAX in my rifle. Both are inexpensive bullets and currently available.

When I first started shooting point blank benchrest which is anything 300 and closer all I had was a 220 swift with a 18x scope. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot from some really good shooters. I saw a couple mentions of BC. From my experiences BC at 300 and in doesn’t matter you just want what is going to be the most consistent. I had good luck with Berger 52g flat base and Nosler Custom Comp's. With both bullets sorting base to ogive is key. Have fun and let us know how you do.

Apparently this rifle doesn't know about what's needed for twist rate because it's accurate to 800 yards using 35.5 grs. H4350.

Any hint as to velocity that's giving you? My post was a caveat about twist being just one of the factors contributing to stability. If you're seeing 2,900 fps or better that 1:7'll do just fine. It's the folks who struggle to get past 2,600 without pressure that might benefit from a faster twist.

Bottom line: use what works for you.

Don't have a definitive clue but the MOA changes regarding elevation coincides pretty closely to JBM data at 2900 fps!
