Ultra Sonic Cleaning and Simple Green

Good Morning Everyone. I have access to an ultrasonic cleaner that has a tank that is 20 inches long. Perfect for an AR barrel and the rest of the upper parts.

I've been shooting the AR suppressed and it's filthy. I've heard the Hornady Ultrasonic Cleaning solution works well for brass but not so well on gun parts. I have also heard of guys using Simple Green as it does a good job cleaning gun parts.

Has anyone used Simple Green in their ultrasonic cleaner? Is it same for an upper, being it's aluminum? What ratio do you use?

Thanks for any information!

Adam

I have used Formula 409 in an US cleaner for various non-firearm items and it worked well. I have used Simple green to clean spun aluminum racing wheels (not in a US bath) and it will etch the aluminum if used full strength/left in contact for while. If you use SG make sure to rinse it well after the bath.

I use simple green to clean the AR bolt/carrier group. I put it in a small container that just covers the parts and leave it over night. I do not dilute it. It works great to remove the carbon. If you leave it too long like 24 hours it turns the parts a funkey color. I use a one in seven solution in the model B tumbler to clean brass, I tumble for two hours. I think it would work in the sonic cleaner just fine. If you use it full strength or run it too long it may cause discoloring on some parts. It would be worth an experiment with some old worn out part.
