Type S FL vs Type S Neck

Dear all,
In a bid to reduce case neck runout after sizing, I'm looking to purchase a new sizing die. Topics similar to this seem to crop up on the forum but I can not find an answer to my specific question. Why use a FL Type S as apposed to a Neck size Type S? I cannot see the advantages of the FL, however the vast majority of people use them for precision reloading. I either neck size or use a FL custom die cut with the same reamer as the barrel (can see the advantage of this but not with a SAAMI spec die). The rifle in question is a custom long range hunting/varminting rig built on a Borden action, chambered in 243. All brass is neck turned prior to reloading. Any advice you can provide me with in regards to helping with with my purchase will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Josh.

I use a FL neck sizing die for exactly the reason you mention. To keep runout low. I use a FL so that every case will chamber smoothly. This also gives a consistent cartridge dimensions. Cases grow differently even in a same lot. One more step is I use a set of Redding competition she’ll holders that lets me FL size my cases for just the right shoulder bump. I set up my sizer die to just kiss the shell holder on maximum up travel. That way I have the same amount of brass compression for each case.

Also not talked about in your OP but also trim each firing.

David just provided the reason why we FL resize and not only Neck Size. CONSISTENTCY is a key to accuracy shot after shot. Then why (on earth) would you ONLY Neck Size and expect the cartridge/casing to perform the same if it hadn't also been resized?????? Serious competitors (that I've talked to) FL Resize their brass as well. But like my favorite saying goes, " You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." And I'm not calling anyone a horse either.

Thank you! I appriciate all the contributions, I will defiantly be purchasing a FL Type S and may also look down the route of a custom die.

Thanks again,
Josh

Size 1/2 of the neck.
