Two stage trigger for varmintin?

Hello. I am interested in building a new varmint rifle for coyotes, badgers and other critters. I am not a competitive rifle shooter and all the knowledge I have gained has been from this excellent site. Any help or suggestions would be warmly welcomed. Here are my objectives and intermediate conclusions:

maximum range: 500 meters
caliber: 6mm BR
neck: .272
bullet
weights: 55-87 grains
barrel: Krieger light Palma
twist: 1:9.5-10.0
length: 25-26 inches
velocities: 3000-3300 f/s

scope: 6-24x56,purchased)

I'd go with any one of those action that will come inletted for an anschutz trigger.,Unfortunatly, that puts Stiller out)You'll neeed to keep the trigger clean, and free of debris,, but they are excellent triggers. WTC makes an outstanding trigger show for them as well.

I saw somewhere that Stiller is coming out with an adapter that will allow the use of an Anschutz trigger on his actions with no modifications to either action or trigger.
Give him a call to check on availability.

If Stiller comes out with a hanger that works like the Briley adaptor, but doesn't require cutting the screw eyes off the Anschutz, I'll be picking one of those up.

I'm surprized no one has done one yet. Maybe it's taken so long because so many people are used to having an action screw behind the trigger housing?

My primary interest is prairie dog shooting. So I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Thanks to the guys here, I'm the proud owner of several custom varmint rifles.

Sounds like you have a Zeiss Diavari scope of which I own a couple and you'll find it is a great product. It reduces eye fatigue IMHO. I also own a few Nightforce BR and NXS scopes plus Leupold and Premier Reticles "Leupolds". They are all great scopes and will return to zero or any intermediate setting while in the field.

Triggers!!! Ahhh.... the million dollar question!... Again you get 2 cents worth...

I only use Jewell triggers.. and I have a few reasons....

1. They are adjustable.
2. They are REM 700 action compatible.
3. You can work on them in the field.
4. They are very consistent.
5. You can get them in most of the common configurations.
6. IF it fails you can get a REM 700 trigger almost anywhere.
7. PS.... Never had one fail and I have them on 10 guns.
8. They work on BAT or Nesika actions and most others.
9. Interchangeable between REM 700 compatible actions.

I have a two stage Jewell on my Les Baer AR15 Varminter,shoots .250 @ 100 yds!). It works fine, but the single stage is more familiar. I do like the two stage on the AR-15 as it prevents multiple firing.

Actions: I like the right bolt, left port configuration, as both hands can be doing something. Additionally, if you shoot right handed, you can see the port without having to bend over the stock. I own BAT actions and Nesika actions.. Both are great actions and I'm sure you'd be very happy with either of them.

Safety: I used to get the Jewell triggers with the safety, but gave it up long ago. IMHO, you have no business closing the bolt until you have a shot! The rest of the time, the bolt should be open.

Pull Weights: I personally use 10 oz. in the field for the varmint rifles. It's light enough for me to be crisp and clean. I tried 1.5 oz. but found that it was bit light when moving or adjusting things. Better shooters might get by with a lighter pull, but I found the 10 oz. perfect for me. The nice thing about the Jewell triggers is that you can adjust it up or down as you learn what you want.

It's always fun to work up a new one!
