Twist Rate vs Barrel Wear

Do faster twist bullets wear out your barrel more than slower ones?
The answer has probably been verified one way or the other but the greater the centrifugal force the greater the radial pressure throughout the length of the bore would be. Measurable....maybe. Don't think the twist rate affects throat erosion from heat and quantity of powder burned.....my thoughts.

I take another view . Fast twists and heavier bullets combined with boat tails , do wear barrels faster . Is it measurable, maybe , but too many variables and I don't think it wears significantly faster .
Anytime you increase barrel time , i.e. Heavy bullets , slower powder faster twist , you've got to be increasing the time your barrel has to absorb the heat generated by the powder combustion.
Just my observations

Several years back, I use to run 243-Ackley's in both 8-twists and 12-twists. Slight advantages seemed to go with slower velocities, where to say faster velocities from lighter bullets appeared to be somewhat harder on the throats. But all and all, not a lot of difference.

Now you run into the evaluation of just when a barrel is "worn out".

Is it because it looks rough or worn down? Some worn things still shoot well for what they are. In the benchrest game a loss of accuracy can be noted and then the barrel is considered "worn out", even though it physically looks like new.

The evaluation is too subjective to answer definitively. Each of us has to evaluate the condition of a barrel. That evaluation can be as varied as we are.
