Twist Rate for a 284 Winchester with 184 hybrids

Looking into spinning up a straight 284 Win and was wondering what twist rate people are running?
Running the 184 Berger Hybrids, the Berger twist rate calculator is showing a 8.5 to a 8.0 to be the most effective but I was under the impression that a 9 twist was what most were running. Any real world experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Darrin

9 does fine but the 8-8.5 is best for 184s. You can shoot lighter bullets just as good with the 8.5 barrels too. The 9 doesn't do as well with heavies but will stabilize them.

Sorry for the late response I shoot both Winchester and Norma brass. I have a lot of bulk Winchester brass from years ago so I mostly shoot it. My reamer was set up to handle the Winchester brass without cutting the neck if I choose not to. I will usually just skim cut the neck to where it cuts almost all the way around for better uniformity. That gives me a total of about .004" clearance on my loaded round.

I'm excited to hear the reports of the 9-twist doing well at higher altitudes. I live in CO and I've got a .284 9-twist barrel sitting in my basement - waiting for the action and stock order to be delivered.

I'm very eager to get this thing up and running and seeing what it will do.

How are you guys liking the 184's? What BC are you running or are you using the AB custom curve? Any 1K yd beyond experience with them?

I’ll echo many above. I’ve been running the 184s for a little bit now and am very happy with 8.5 twist.

I have a brand new 8.5 twist Brux ready to go for these bullets - shooting at sea level and I'm more than confident these bad boys will work.

What fb are y’all using for the Berger 184?? Shooting a Straight 284 Winchester and a 7mmRSAUM
THANKS for any info.
