Twist for 6mm norma coyote rifle

I am having a 6mm norma repeater built . I want this caliber because of its accuracy, and I shoot a bench 6br for a hobby. I will be using this rifle for coyotes, but enjoy the challenge of a tight group at the range. I will be shooting about 500 yards. My question is, what twist? My gunsmith mentioned 1:10 for 87 grain a-max, and that the lighter bullets will make for easier magazine feeding. Is this a common 6mm norma twist? I don't think a coyote will care to much about the weight of the bullet. But I am unsure. What would you recommend? Thanks

1/10 and 1/14 seem to be the most popular. I think the VLD guys shoot 8-1/2. I went with a 1/12 which allows me to shoot up to 85 grains. I shoot 75 Grain VMaxs for ground hogs and 70 grain Bergers off the bench.
Check out Berger's web site, they show the optimal twist for every bullet they sell. www.bergerbullets.com
I also shoot their bullets in my 22-250. they cut my groups in half.

galold,

I have or have had all the twist in a 6BR. For Varmints, I like 14 tw for the speed using a 70 gr blitzking. I have many one shot kills out to 620yds on Va groundhog. The 10 tw will give you more bullet selection.

I went through the same dilemma a couple years ago when building mine, I ended up going with a 9 twist. I am having really good luck shooting the Berger 95 gr VLDs at 600yds, but I wish I would have gone with an 8 twist. I don't think you will be giving much up going with a faster twist and it leaves the door wide open for any bullet up to the 108's in case you decide you want to try and stretch you range a little farther. My 9 twist will still shoot the 75gr vmax under 1/2 minute which is a lot smaller than a coyote.
Good luck.

According to my gunsmith, benchrest shooter, it is possible to over spin a bullet, with accuracy as bad a key holing. I haven't shot anything lighter than 68 grains yet, but 75 grain bullets shoot great out of my 1/12.
All I'm saying is 55 grain bullets might not shoot so well out of a 1/9.

Having shot 8 twist, 70 tnts at 3400+, I saw no problems, and good accuracy, if I was SURE I was not needing over 87 gr,non VLD) a 12 is nice, BUT, as above, I like to keep my options wide open, heavies are nice to be able to shoot and I never keyholed a 70grain, and IIRC, some have shot/shoot 55-58s as well in 8t.

My gun shoots the 75 Vmax with great accuracy out of a 12 twist, gun is set up as a repeater specifically as a coyote rig. I like the idea of the 75 Vmax out of the 6br as a great compromise between speed and a heavy enough bullet to really knock the coyotes down. This combo knocks'em down like a lightning strike. This bullet seems very well suited to the velocity I get, not too many splashes and rarely a pass through. I get 3350 fps with Varget. I would decide what weight bullet you want to shoot and then shoot a twist well suited to that bullet to squeeze as much accuracy out as you can.
