Turning down a bbl

Bruno shooters supply has a Krieger BBL 1-8.5 twist #17 HV @31" can that size bbl be turned down to heavy sporter contour ? Also I want to shoot bullets from 140gr to 180 gr VLD will this BBL do that ? Or do i need a special free bore chamber to fire Berger 180gr VLDs ?

I would suggest you call Kreiger about turning the barrel down. The rifle used to win the Wimbledon cup started out with a #10 cont bbl that was turned to a #9 cont for me by Kreiger. The barrel was then installed & chambered by Sid Goodling in .280 Ack. The 1-8.5 twist should be fine for the bullets you want to use. I sold that rifle to Col. K last year, he says "That rifle is a hammer."

You mean buy the bbl from Bruno Shooters supply and have them ship it back to Krieger to do it ?

Took a 2nd look at Brono Shooter supply. They have a BBL with #4 contour. But its a 1-9" twist. Will that still handle a 180 gr VLD ?

If you are speaking of a 7mm, Berger recommends a 1-9" twsit for the 180 VLD. So yes, the 1-9 should work.

If you want a specific contour that isn't available from a retailer, just call Krieger and see if they will turn it or even just buy the barrel from them.

+1. I should have mentioned in my post that the twist is 1-9 in the barrel that won the Cup. It is always best to start with the barrel in the contour you want.

Kriger said "No" for turning the bbl down. Any how turned out Bruno Shooter supply didn't have that bbl in stock. They said 22 weeks to get a bbl. Contacted Brux bbls they said 8 weeks. So Brux barrels it is.
