can usually pick one up at a major gun show--a guy here, cigarcop makes amazing wood stocks---i would ask him

Not trying to be a wiseazz, but can you recognize a true Turkish blank? I purchased one from these guys about 10 years ago. It looked nice but needed a few more years to cure. Remember, dry wood is not necessarily cured. http://www.hunterbid.com/cgi-bin/new/Auction/APViewItem.asp?ID=9309
I have bought about 15 blanks from Roger Vardy in Australia. His blanks are at least 15 years old. http://rogervardystockwood.com/ Remember that Aussie dollars are $100 to our $74,so the exchange is very good for us. Shipping is about $40.

A few of my Roger Vardy wood.
He is great to deal with.

Ya know, I did do a "mental exercise" about doing a wood veneer on a composite stock. Just too many compound curves!

Edit: Oh! Dusty likes that? Here's where I ended up: Get a blank of 1/2" aluminum, 6"x36". Cut it to the stock profile. That gives a stable center to lock an action on, like a full length bedding block. Sandwich the aluminum between 2 pieces of gorgeous Walnut, covering as much of the aluminum as desired or as practical.;) How about that?:D

Now there's the best idea yet. Make the aluminum profile easy to fit to, with some traction points to epoxy some great wood to from a blank ripped down the center to rejoin perfectly and VOILA!! Yeah, I know, it's only simple in my mind. That's because I'm simple minded.:) I would truly give that a go if only to have a story about an epic failure to tell!

sounds good- might as well combine that with ur new lamination project. :rolleyes:You could anodize the AL to and have a stripe down the middle whatever color you want

I could custom paint wood grain on a composite for ya
It'd take me a minute but I'm sure I could come up with some good feathering

Now Dusty: You made a choice. Man up to it. You bought that boat. Ya coulda bought 2 guns like Butch has, maybe three, and fished from shore.;):eek::eek:

I bought a nice house before the housing boom- maybe 2002 or so. I used to tell everybody at the bass club i was a true redneck because i paid more for my bassboat than my house.
