Thanks. Wasn’t sure if I should go off my tune now or start all over with it on.I had absolutely no idea what I was doing the first time I shot with mine. I had never seen one until I bought the 40X. I searched all the old forums looking for instructions on the slider tubes and found nothing. The previous owner simply told me "adjust it until your groups get really small". So I just used my best judgment.
I started adjusting my tuner with the tube on and the slider all the way back. I found three or four sweet spots, picked the one in the middle of the range and fine-tuned it. Next I moved the slider up to the second hole, then the third, and then all the way to the end. The rifle seemed to prefer the slider over the second hole. That is where it lives now
worked for me but I was just flying by the seat of my pants. There may be a "proper way" and hopefully some of the more experienced here educate us both. I will be watching this thread closely
Thanks. I bought it to try one day. I might and might not. Thanks for infoIf there is any methodology to adjusting one I've never heard or read about it. Over on the other channel, Tim's given solid advice as to forget about it for now, & get a solid tune bare. A repeatable tune.
Its real easy to look at pictures on rifles with them, or go to a match & seemingly everyone there is using one. Perhaps even the winners leading you to believe there may be better. And there MAY be. Key word may, you don't know unless you try.
I have spoken & shot with many that have had their rifles come to life with one. I'm not one of them.
The key thing with any tune is its consistent, day in, day out regardless of conditions. If you're feeling like you should be seeing better, or hoping for better I should say, you may not have the best tune. Or there's other issues with equipment, rest, ammo, etc, including us. Some days we're just not up too it...plain & simple.
You'll find a "tune" with it if you adjust on it enough. The key thing is does it repeat each outing, every time. I've messed with mine quite a bit & I've never had repeatable results. It's in the drawer collecting dust but I'm sure I'll drag it back out some day.
I'd give it a try one of two things will happenThanks. I bought it to try one day. I might and might not. Thanks for info
I am sure i will. Just trying to get a idea if I do where to start at.I'd give it a try one of two things will happen
A.- it works
or
B. - it does not and you take it off
it's not like you are sawing 2 inches off your barrel while sacrificing a newborn kitten at midnight
Mt.Boy,I am sure i will. Just trying to get a idea if I do where to start at.
I am a firm believer in that something can always be better. Just wanted to try one to see what kinda difference they might make. And if it don’t I am not really out much.Mt.Boy,
You started this thread with the statement you are pretty sure you have a good tune with just the tuner. here is something to think about, if you have a good tune why would you want to make any changes?
IMO when a shooter wants to make changes it is because there isn't any confidence on how the rifle is shooting. for me confidence is knowing any miss/drop point was me and not the rifle, tune or ammo.
How much confidence do
I understand and I have been there myself. I can say this had I known what I know today, the amount of time and money I spent over the first 4-5 years when I fell into the RF rabbit hole. I would be way ahead today, but saddest part was all that good and great ammo I wasted.I am a firm believer in that something can always be better. One last thing I haven't seen posted here yet, and it is the barrel. is it capable of providing what you are after. nothing you put on the barrel will make it any better than it is capable of shooting. tuning is about making it consistent not making it better you have to have better/good from the start barrel wise. another past lesson I learned!
Good luck with your testing.

From what little I have seen the slider tube will only fine tune whatever the rifle is shooting already. However it does seem to help the bullets "buck" the wind, which may or may not be my imagination. Ask me once I have shot a thousand rounds through it.
My slider was made back in the teens, and I have found several threads dating back to the mid 2000's mentioning them, some say they are voodoo others claim they work. The fact that people are still using them today tells me there is something to them whether real or imagined. One thing I do know that crosses over through every shooting skill is that confidence is just another tool in the box. The placebo effect has been documented to be real
Did I say somewhere that he did? All I said wasWhatever the perceived benefit of a slider, bucking the wind is not one of them….that, friend, is fantasy. When first invented, James Pappas made no such claim

They could “ seem” to summon alien crafts, but they don’t do either.Did I say somewhere that he did? All I said was
I bolded the important parts for you
How much testing have you done with these TRSR8? You seem to really hate them. You tend go go on a tirade everytime on is mentioned
You stll did not answer my question on have you ever used one? So I ask again, have you actually tested one to see what it does and does not do? Or are you just speculating? They could “ seem” to summon alien crafts, but they don’t do either.
No tirade, there is simply what they may or may not do and there. is absolutely what they do not do.
