Could the advent of E targets open up the possibility of loading at the range at an F Class match? You could use your "pit" time to load.

The use of a tuner is a fine addition to a well-tuned load. Adding one does not, however, make up for deficiencies in any of the other critical aspects of load development, including charge weight and seating depth testing. Due to the match format and number of rounds required, there is simply not enough time to load ammo during a typical F-Class match.

The trouble with tuning during a match for f class is that you don’t have the ability to shoot groups that are really tunable. (In addition to not having time- let’s pretend you can do all you need with a tuner). It just not terribly practical to use a twenty shot f class group (or part of one) as a benchmark for tuning unless it is absolutely dead calm. I think you’d be better off experimenting with different temperatures before hand and hoping you’re right on match day. Or just leave it alone. The x ring is 1/2 MOA, after all.

On more than one occasion I have used an unlimited sighter period in addition to tuner 'D.O.P.E.' to reduce group vertical to good effect on a load that had an unexpected increase in vertical in those conditions. Does it require a good record/data of previous conditions and tuner change effects...absolutely....but it can be done. I am a relative newcomer to tuner use but I can see the benefits and strongly suspect, with more time and data, I will become more effective in keeping a given load/rifle in the best tune.

I've run a tuner in fclass for 3 full seasons and have good records about what to do if I ever had need to move it in between strings (or God forbid mid string). Only moved it in one string (in hundreds of strings) and that was after I was out if the running and wanted to see what happened. It helped, but pulled barrel shortly thereafter because it was throwing shots. Drew

I made a change mid string (after being disgusted after the first ten shots) this past weekend at a 1000yd match. Temps were a bit colder than usual. One graduation dropped the vertical at least .5 MOA. It worked...I took home some wood.

I changed my tuner between strings last weekend at the bridgeville, de 600y match. It was a little cooler than I expected. This target was the result of it. I'd do it again. Lol. Sure was easier than changing powder mid match.

Thank you, I just wished I'd done it earlier. It's the first match I went to this year, so I need to get my bench manners back in check as well.

If that's to me, I'll be honest. It's a new cartridge for me, and I only had preliminary testing. That barrel only has about 120 rounds through it IIRC. And that's all been testing with this new cartridge/reamer. So I may have gotten a little lucky. But I did move it where I thought it should be, and sight in went accordingly. But I'll take every ounce of luck I can get.

Just be sure to document tuner changes and the following changes in group shapes. You'll pick it up just fine. And then you can always reference back to previous experiences.
