Tulsa Wanenmacher show

Jamils is gross.

You want a steak go to Bluestone. That's where I took Tubb, Christie, Nate, and David's posse, and I would say it was very well received. 45 day aged steak. Maybe the best steak in Oklahoma.

For something close to to the Expo center that is home cooking try Talley's. Everything there is good from breakfast to dinner. Hot waitresses.

You want a burger, then its Goldie's at 51st and Lewis. Weber's home made rootbeer on Peoria, or Whataburger.

Even if the tables were free, dealers around my neck of the woods would lose money. Many of them seem content to haul the same junk around for years without selling a thing.

Although in fairness to them, I don't understand the collectors' mentality on making money to begin with. I like investments that send a check every month.

I prefer mailbox money.

I wasn't able to make it in November. Going to try and make it for April but would only be for Sat. Have to hustle back home sun morning for my kids school play Sun afternoon

If it's steak you quest in the Tulsa area, I'd highly recommend the filet mignon at the Sandite Pool Hall in Sandsprings. It next door to the Hampton Inn. A really good properly cooked steak, 2 sides and a salad for $22 bucks. It's excellent! I eat one every time I go shoot at Red Castle. It would be a $40 plate in downtown Tulsa. Plenty of good draft beer choices to go with it.

Can't go wrong with a Burger from Ron's Burgers. Just excellent.

As far as BBQ? Other than the usual chain stores good bbq is still a myth in Oklahoma. Go eat all you can eat catfish somewhere.

You have to come to Texas for real BBQ.

Oh that's just silly. I've lived in Texas and Oklahoma. Okies can smoke meat the same as they do in Texas. And we can buy salt and pepper.

I'll put my brisket up against anything I ate in Texas... including Angelo's in Ft worth on White Settlement Road where I used to eat frequently.

There's a fella here in Broken Arrow that does local catering, he puts a wicked pecan smoke on brisket, pork, and bologna.

I've been to about 60 of the Tulsa shows, probably 40 in a row until a storm and work interrupted my run. I quit going mostly due to walking issues and that they moved the Fall show date to the weekend that our Deer season opens.

Its huge! Be sure that you wear comfortable walking shoes. It helps to carry a small pocket notebook to note anything that you want to go back to look at. You have to start early and hustle to finish the whole show. You can see examples of about anything that you might be interested in. We've bought everything from small parts to a gun safe.

There are usually a lot of vendors selling primers and powder. You need to do your homework and be familure with prices but I usually find some good deals. Over the years I have bought several guns there. I've also found bargains on other things. I bought about a dozen RCBS loading trays for $1 each. Another time I bought 3 green plastic parts trays/drawers at $10 each for my shop. The kind with the flip top cover thats in a rack. When the guy handed them to me they had RCBS parts in them. Spare seating plugs, spare expander balls and decapping pins, extra die parts for $10 each. Another time a half dozen Lyman style ingot molds for $2 each. Lots and lots of other things.

They also have some very nice displays from some of the collectors groups. Browning, Colt, High Standard, Ruger and Winchester to name a few. They used to have a visiting Celebrity or two attend. Over the years I have met Bill Jordan, James Arness, General Paul Tibbits of B-29 fame, a few other WW2 pilots including a Tuskegee Airman, a few Hall of Fame Benchrest Shooters and probably a few others that I'm forgetting. They usually have a few large vendors selling books if you are into books.

Restaurants in Tulsa seem to come and go. McNellie's Irish Pub was one of our regular stops. Decent food and a nice beer selection, if you are into Craft Beer. I'll 2nd Billy Simm's for BBQ. We usually do breakfast at one of the chain breakfast places like The Village Inn or Ihop. There are a few near the show. Ruth's Chris is a nice high end steak house. Its also $$$$$. There are a lot of chain places like Outback, Logans, Longhorn, ect. A lot of the Show people eat at the Western Sizzler just down the street from the show. A decent cheap meal can be had at Golden Corral.

I wish we had known urbanrifleman back when we were going. Local knowledge is great to have.
