Tula vs Wolf primer

Tim Singleton

Gold $$ Contributor
I have read a lot of opinions on here as well as other sites. This is my experience with Tula and Wolf primers.
They maybe made in the same factory idk. But they are not the same primers
small rifle comparison. ES ,SD are not equal. The wolf out performed the Tula with lower ES, SD in my 6BR. at least with this lot of primers. As you can see in the pics they are physically different.

Here's something I got from the TulAmmo website. I definately supports your observations.

In connection with our ongoing promotion and support of TULAMMO products, we want to be sure that all of our customers are aware of the types of ammunition being supplied in the U.S. from the Tula and Ulyanovsk Cartridge Works in Russia. TULAMMO USA was formed for the sole purpose of distributing the TULAMMO brand of ammunition from these two factories. The Tula and Ulyanovsk Cartridge Works no longer support or produce any of the “Wolf” brands of ammunition. Please note that:

TULAMMO is not WOLF Performance Ammunition
TULAMMO is not WOLF Military Classic Ammunition
TULAMMO is not WOLF GOLD Ammunition
TULAMMO is not WPA (WOLF Performance Ammunition)
TULAMMO is not WPA (WOLF Performance Ammunition) Military Classic
TULAMMO is not Wolf Performance Primers
Our primary goal is to support the highest quality ammunition provided by these two factories under the TULAMMO brand. We expect nothing but the best during the performance of our ammunition products. To order TULAMMO products, and for any questions about TULAMMO, please contact us at 888-317-5810. We also can be reached via email at info@tulammousa.com.

they are what the seller asks for...
there have been production changes to the line.....
the issue being you cannot go buy wolf primers today....they no longer have the contract to market them.
nor can you buy pmc primers today as they lost thier marketing rights long ago.

primers vary from lot to lot .

stuff happens in real life

Bruno's lists them as in stock. I bought 5000 Wolf srm from them in January of this year.
In the Wolf packaging. They are what the seller asks for

there is certainly some old stock sitting on some sheves somewhere....
the last i saw were the small rifle mags...but nothing else for quite some time...
it does take time for slow items to delete stock..
the only wolf i have is for my own personal use. i have been selling tula for well over a year...

Is this why you push them to be the same as Wolf?

Is one better than the other, Wolf vs Tula?

I ask as I have a chance to buy some Wolf's.

I'm only offering my opinion in the posts above. In My testing the Wolf out performed the Tula. Not that the Tula isn't a good primer. Only that they do not appear to me to be one in the same primer. Neither in performance or in materials of construction

not likely..
i do not sell on the net,
i have had none for sale in 5 or 6 months.

i do shoot wolf tula primers in my own personal ammo. i have had excellent results.yes i have seen errors. i had two without anvils, but at the same time i use fed large pistol in my 45's and recieved a SMALL pstol primer in one package..kind of hard to miss that one, had a package that had 99 in it...everyone makes mistakes in mass packaging.
no issues in my 223's and my 1000yd 300 win mag loves the LRM marked as tulammo.

as i side note, based on the date on those LRM primers it is over two years that i have been selling them and wolf lost thier contract. wolf had a bunch of primers in the states and has taken a while for them to go away. at one time the SRM was touted as a BENCHREST primer, which is why brunos probably has them in stock.

Personally I found the Tula to be a step up from the Wolf primers. The Wolf Primers I have left over (LR) have anvils installed off center with the edge of one "flattened" between their press and the edge of the cup. Sometimes the anvils even fall out when poured into the priming tool tray.

I called Wolf and then sent them some pictures of the primers with cock-eyed anvils. Never heard word one back.

donovan
this is one time i am happy to be wrong....
anyone that can furnish primers in the near future is a good thing.

so did wolf explain where they have been for the last two years ??

here is my experience....wolf is on the market, selling well with great pricing, then just like with pmc, they disappear and tulammo shows up with the same primers..at a higher price.

none of my distributors have had wolf for nearly 2 years...with the small exception of the srm.

the outside packaging of wolf and tula primers were identical when tula started. tula has since dropped the mfg info from the sleeve /box.

like i said i would be happy to be wrong this time....

i do not buy at retailers... i buy from distribtors...
three different distributors told me the same story....
they have not been available in my area at all...no distributors no retailers.
it just what i was told...maybe i was told that to justify the new higher prices on the tula primers.

i sell to other dealers...small dealers, retail, and furnish as part of the ammo i get loaded..by two companies.

i have nothing to gain nor profit from "stories"

They have been available from retailers who deal in Wolf primers all along. Maybe your selected stores just switched to Tula or just stopped handling Wolf's.

So did you just make up the "wolf lost there contract" stuff?
And what about your PMC claims, are they possibly wrong also?
What's your reasoning and motivation behind such falsified claims?

i just got off the phone with wolf profromance AMMO....
here is what they said,,,over a year ago they quit selling primers..the supplier raised the price and they chose not to carry at the higher price. ( i'm gussing time wise it would be after people were paying $100 /1000 about a yr after yomommas first election..so 2010 or so).....

they say they have since negotiated a new contract and will be selling in the furure through graf and sons, wideners and ammo store.....the future is somewhere in the 6 month range.....donovan says a little less.

while i have a wideners account and a graf and sons account they are not my normal wholesalers......

time will tell

Like the commercial on TV says, "If it's on the internet, it must be true".

Interestingly, my current Tula LR primers look exactly the same as the Wolf-labeled primer shown in the picture from the first post.

Regardless of the existence of Wolf Tula, IMO, buy from an AMERICAN primer manufacturer, you will be much much happier! :)
