Both, with and without the barrel.

Sorry, been out of town. I received no instructions for the chassis because it was shipped directly to Pierce who built the barreled action and installed in the chassis. I received a finished rifle without instructions. The bolt still does chatter and bind with no pressure on the action so I may take Joe's advice and work on the bolt fit.

If Pierce built it why don't you contact him. I would not expect to have a custom rig put together and then have to use sand paper or anything else on it.....

Good luck with that. I mean it. I hope he does the right thing for you mtang45. Jim Ayers never even hinted at the possibility of them taking responsibility, on the contrary I learned from him the term "witness marks on the bolt". At that point I didn't trust them to fix anything. After all they shipped my two rifles knowing that the bolts did not cycle smoothly. What does that tell you?

Having said that, both of my rifles are sub 1/4 MOA rifles. I will also say that once the sticky bolt was fixed I have had no other issues and I have gone through 5,000+ rounds (2 barrels) on my 308.

Yikes, this is sounding worse and worse. Joe that bad that you had to modify your custom action with sand paper, I would have been furious.

Stang: I would for one call Gary, he is always willing to give advice (good advice) and he does not treat you like you are bothering him which is also a plus.

Second I would not advise sanding/modifying the action just yet, I don't doubt that Joe's needed some but if I was to read this post when I was having binding issues I would have been sanding much of the receiver but it wouldn't have been the real issue. I would take that whole barreled action out of the tube gun, remove the trigger and cycle the bolt. If it cycles clean then you know the action is getting torqued by something during the install if it still binds then you know for sure that it is the action that's out of spec. Then you can get the mods done to make it right.

Like Joe said they shoot very well, I love mine now so don't give up on it yet. If you want you can PM me your phone # and I can tell you better the steps I had to take to get mine torque free.

That's not what I said. Do not mess with the action.

I said:
I had to use marking ink to see the places that the bolt was rubbing. With 600 grit paper I sanded those areas. Within 30 minutes I had the action working smoothly, then I polished those spots with 1600 grip paper. No problems after that.

I could have said that better. I polished the bolt lugs not the action. In my case polishing the back of the lugs took care of 90% of the stickiness. You need to see where YOUR bolt rubs.

Mine was sticky on opening and closing the bolt. The raceway was not a problem. This discussion is taking a lot longer than it took me to fix the bolt.
