Tube gun build questions

I am going to school right now and just learned that in machine shop portion of the course if I get far enough ahead I can tackle some projects of my own. I was thinking of making a tube gun chasis for my 700 SA. I have a rough idea of how I would do it and plenty of time to draw up details for the CAD level students to program.

My big questions are about mounting the action in the stock. Do you use a Vblock system like some have do you sleeve or maybe do a .300 recoil disk system and have the action and barrel floated off of that? Barrel will be short at 18 inches but that is not to say in the future I won't go throwing a 6.5 of some sort on there with a 30 inch tube. I figure the mounting system is the first thing I have to work out before doing any other design details as this system affects how the rest of the chasis would work and clearances it would need to be floated.

No I have never done anything like this before but when materials are at cost and I can do the work for free myself and get a grade for it I figure why not try.

If it affects input primary barrel will be my new fast twist 308 barrel at 18 inchs with factory trigger and threaded bolt handle with mounted knob. And I would remove the metal along the top of the tube to create clearance for larger bell scopes and to let as much air get in as possible. Man I would kill for my own design program to play with on this instead of paper.

I built a tube gun this winter using a Rem 700 SA. The mount is simple. I used a piece of 2" OD 1 1/4" ID Al tubing bored out to the OD of the action. Since I did the action blue printing, barrel fitting and chambering my self I used SS disk as a recoil lug that sets in a counter bore in the tube. The action and barrel are inserted from the front of the chassis. The action is a slip fit and held in by the action screws through the tube wall. Additionally there are two set screws at 120 degrees from each action screw, just because.

Good luck
