Tubbs Final Finish ammo, anyone try it ?

Tubbs Final Finish ammo, has anyone ever tried this product ? I just picked up my Remington 700 VTR in .308 and am considering trying this product. I don't target shoot but I would like to get it as accurate as possible without spending a lot of money. Anyone have any feedback, on Tubbs or this gun ?Best production ammo to try ?

I have tried the product and found that with 15 rounds the first three five that I had moved the freebore about .020 forward to where I could no longer even get a SMK 155 to touch the lands and stay in the brass. If you can still shoot it dont do it.

I've used FinalFinish, and ThroatMaintSys from the instant it was marketed. It has never hurt a thing in my barrels.

For me, 10rnds FF to break-in, then a couple TMS shot2 every~ 200 or so just to dress up the lands.

If you have a stock Remington barrel fire lapping may very well help. Do not use the product in high quality lapped aftermarket barrels. I used it in a off the rack AR-15 barrel and it helped the grouping at 300-600yds.

Factory Remington barrels are very long throated and the situation oldpup refers to is common in them with or without fire lapping.

David Tubb is one of the world's best Highpower and Long Range position shooters. The T2K is a great rifle for POSITION shooting, but, at $4500.00 is way overpriced,IMHO).

I used Tubb's Final Finish in a Savage factory barrel and it made a big difference. I recommend it for factory barrels. Most of those need help.

I am shooting an A bolt w/E R Shaw bbl. Was very hard to get clean, accuracy was fair,1")After the final finish procedure was complete, the gun became a tack driver. Consistant sub 1/2" groups. I was extremely pleased. Would steer clear on match grade hand lapped bbl's.

I used it a few years back on an AR barrel to remove a burr from the gas hole being drilled. It worked good for that, but I didn't see any accuracy improvement.

I would consider using it on a factory bore that would not perform but only after shooting it and trying all the usual accuracy techniques. To consider using this method on a custom hand lapped bore, in my humble opinion, borders on the insane. The reason I make that statement, as anyone with a borescope can verify, is that a hand lapped bore is a combination of art, skill, and technology. To view a brand new custom benchrest quality bore is like stepping into another world, especially when you view a typical factory bore.

The smoothest bore I've seen, to date on a mass produced factory rifle, is that of a Sako Vixen .223 70's vintage imported by Stoeger.

I dont care what others think about it, but I swear by it in applications where it is needed. I have used it in factory barrels to improve them a lot and I have used the Throat Maintnance system,TMS) quite a bit. I have had a few custom barrels which had some minor tight or rough spots and after running some lapping bullets through them, they were improved.

Today I used a lot of them,30 TMS bullets), shot 1 lapping, then 1 bare bullet, clean then 2 shots again in another custom barrel. This barrel, supposed to be a top brand custom!! ) Had a loose spot in the middle 1/3rd of the barrel. These fire lapping shots loosened up the 1st 1/3rd of the barrel so that it doesnt go tight, loose, tight.
Now my best barrels never had to have any sort of aggressive lapping and neither should they, just an occaisional TMS bullet every 250 shots or so. If a barrel needs extended lapping, it will most likely never be a hummer at all, but if you are like me and hate to throw slightly used barrels away, it will sometimes help to make a bad barrel OK. For factory hunting barrels, I nearly always use them.

For what it is worth there is an alternative that no one is talking about - JB Bore products and Flitz compound. Not to mention 600-800 grit lapping compound. I have a variety of factory barrels that wouldn't shoot, well anyway) that became sub-moa shooters after simply polishing with one of the above on a patch over a cleaning brush.
One has complete control over how many passes,I use 10 for lapping compound one time only in a barrels life, 40-60 with JB "red" every 500 or so rounds). No reloading necessary, though I reload) and one can do it at the range.

It's worked well for me.

Where can I find more information on lapping and the products you guys are mentioning in this thread and the terminology everyone uses in these forums? Any good training books/videos out there for someone who would like to learn more about gunsmithing? What about gunsmithing school? I am interested in learning a lot more about all this but may not be able to go the full gunsmithing school route.
