TSRA LR Championship

Congrats to the winners and good job to the crew putting it on.

I'm sure others would also be interested in an AAR of running an ET match in crap weather. Issues, causes, resolutions, etc?

Hats off the Bayou Rifles team and all that helped. Conducting a State Championships in less than desirable conditions and despite the challenges the team did the best they could worked thru everything thrown at them. There were lots of people that helped throughout the weekend. I personally had a great time despite the torrential rain, flooding, freezing cold 70 degree morning (those that were there know). Was impressive to watch so many good shooters work thru the challenging conditions and shoot some very impressive scores. Mr Burrows of the US National Service Rifle team shot an impressive score on open sights. 991 I believe but am not sure...

I just finished finalizing the scores and updating the BRI website with the scores. You can view them here:

It was epic. What. A. Zoo. And a wet one at that. I discovered that printers, paper and laptops don't like rain and/or high humidity. All the best preparations rarely survive the first encounter with the real world.

When I got up at 4AM on Saturday for the hour drive to the range, I could hear the rain coming down hard and it had been for hours. My pool was almost flush. My daughter and I drove down to Julliff in the deluge. When we got to the 1000 yard line, it was dismal. However, Ben and I had resolved that we would shoot, no matter what. I want to thank Woody, Ray Weaver, Johnny Ingram, Tim Vaught, Omar Alonzo, Doug Skogman and the others (whom I cannot remember because I'm still in a daze) who went to the pits to get the etargets in play.

We had a number of people walk out, but the vast majority stayed and got to shoot. I am very proud of the shooters; we had to improvise and deal with countless issues but the shooters put up with all that, went ahead and competed fiercely.

The second day started much better but the rain was coming back and we did finish in a downpour. The problem with eTargets, from a stats office point of view is that everything is too fast. There was very little time between matches to get the scores colated and printed and scripts were difficult to follow sometimes. Some of the reports I had printed got soaked and were unusable. Others I had to create on the fly in difficult circumstances, mistakes did occur and got corrected quickly and people were very understanding of that.

My SUV was full of soaked paper, envelopes, shooting gear, electronics and whatnot. It took me an hour to empty when I got home and a few garbage bags.

Congratulations to the winners, and indeed to everyone who shot. The shooters putting up with this zoo made it all worthwhile.

Congrats to Team Texas II (Skip's team) and "We Don't Rent Pigs" (Erik's team).

Congrats to Alton, Larry, Jeffrey, Tanner and Greg.

Now to finish the rest of the paperwork.

Thank you Doug Skogman, Tim Vaught, Omar Alonzo, Johnny Ingram and a few others I sadly don't know their names. I can guarantee you this match would not have happened without this core group. They busted ass to get the Etargets up and running to keep from cancelling the match. Yes there were some problems, wind/rain and electronic targets don't play well together.

I appreciate the hard work this crew put in to make it happen. Many shooters traveled from all over and spent a lot of cash to come shoot the TSRA. Again, greatly appreciated!!

Congrats to all the winners!!!!

PJ was just showing off with that 200-3x :D:D
What Norm said is spot on, would’ve been very easy to shut it down. Appreciate the effort guys, great job and great match!! Some good stories too, Seal team six especially.

^ Tod, great shooting with you. 51-X’s, along with David’s, in a 100 shot match in those conditions, that’s odds on to hit an X each pull in wind and rain.

Thanks David.. I wanted to tell you, I thought you shot that last relay very well! 9 one on and then cleaned out, you didn’t let that 9 stop your plan and proceeded to pick your way through it, quick subtle changes that required a new call while not relying too much on the last shot spotter. Great shooting!
