trying to start an nra approved fclass match

we are trying to get an nra approved fclass matches started at a range here in alabama and i have a couple of questions if y'all dont mind .

it will be mid range on electronic target
1 is there a certian course of fire that has to be followed ie by relays 20 shot get up next shooter shoot rotating in and out or can you shoot a solid string of 45 or 60 plus sighters all at one time?

Happy to hear someone is willing to donate time to help spread F-Class...........

But first lal357 you should go to the NRA Web Site and have a READ HERE http://competitions.nra.org/how-to-get-started/sanctioned-tournament-information.aspx

And also have a good read of the Complete Rule Book, not just Section 22!!

To answer your question on Course of Fire, yes there are certain COF's that have to be followed, weather 300, 500 or 600 yds.

No it is against the Rules to shot your 60 shots all at once, which is why I pointed you to the Rule Book, you will learn as you go,,,,

Good Luck!!

thanks for the reply we have someone contacting them most likely next week during the meeting we had it was brought up about relays and it was mentioned about just shooting it all at once and i had told them that with the exception of my club match which is not sactioned every place i shoot at has relays in which you shoot 15 or 20 then score or got to the pits and never shoot the whole thing at once. the group trying to get this up and running just want to get it right.

Two things - not everyone is really going to want to shoot 45 (much less 60) shots without some sort of break in between. 20-shot strings are the typical maximum for various reasons, not the least of which is fatigue. Also, you might want to consider allowing sling shooters to participate in your matches as well. I know quite a few knowledgeable, experienced, and potentially very helpful Tennessee and Alabama sling shooters who are always looking to support the shooting sports, especially at new venues. It may not be wise to shut them out right from the get go. Not sure if that was really your intention, but I just thought I'd mention it since most venues run F-Class and Sling shooters concurrently...

lal357 - Is your group thinking of the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park or your home range? As an Alabama resident and an enthusiastic, but marginal, F-class shooter this is very good news. Be more than glad too help, please PM me if I can assist your effort.

Thanks,

i agree with the 45 round string thats how it is done at central alabama gun club and it can really wear on you and your barrel especially in the summer months (i use a timer to keep my shot @ 1 minute apart to keep my barrel from going to melt down mode as i call it). as for the sling shooters i'll bring that up when i talk to the contact up that way again never thought about that before but yes they are always sling shooters when i go to other places to shoot.

Count me in if you get it worked out at Talladega. It's a bit of a drive, but I'll pile some friends in the car and make a road trip out of it. Talladega is too nice a facility not to have an F-Class match. I think a 3x600 format would be perfect. That is, three 20 round matches at 600 yards. Done before lunch.

The contact between us and cmp has started a f class page for info its
Bama f class marksman

He could answer more than I could

I would not want to run more than 20 shots for record with out a break. That's going to be gruesome for barrel wear. (Maybe Brux and Kreiger will sponsor 60 shot matches :p ) I'd pass on that format for anything bigger than a 22lr.

I've been on the 600 yard line at Tullahoma when a new shooter with a 243 sporter rifle was having problems getting on target, I think after 35 or 40 shots her tupperware stock was starting to melt where it contacted the recoil lug.

In all seriousness strings longer than 20 are going to be hard on shooters and equipment. I get not wanting to be on the range till sundown, but I really don't understand the desire to rush through an event where the purported purpose it to to enjoy oneself.

+1
If you don't have 6 hours to shoot a match. Do something else. I am one who has been in both the Army and USMC. I don't do "hurry up" well anymore. Not for "fun" anyway. In F-Class I'm NOT training to meet the enemy. I'm trying to construct very accurate ammo to shoot through my very expensive gun so that I can see if I know what to do with either or both. Not interested in "hurry". Been there, done that when it was the real deal.

Rant over. LOL

I think it's really cool that you guys are looking into this. Thanks for doing so. My wife shoots as well and we're in Mississippi so we are certainly up for the trip.

I am new to this forum but, I have been the match director for the F-Class matches at the CMP Marksmanship Park thru the start up period. We have held three matches this year, the first a trial run to shake out the equipment and then we held a paid match which had 15 competitors. The winner of the F-Open Brett Collins shot a 591. July the 16 we held the second paid match, 30 competitors. It was won by Brian Bowling with a 598x35.

The first match we allowed the second relay shooters that had fired their first target series to stay on the line as we moved to 600 yards. Bad mistake. Since then we have rotated relays after every string allowing time for the shooters to move their equipment and set up with 5 minutes for sighter and 20 minutes for record shots. The firing points are covered and targets are raised and lowered as needed.

We have consistently received comments to the effect that it is one of the most comfortable ranges to shoot on if not the very best. Everyone states that it is the finest facility of its type. Comments have alway be very positive when discussed from a competition perspective. The F-Class Competitive Shooters Facebook page has some comments and pictures from this weekends match.

Our next match, a triple 600, is scheduled for October the 8th.

i had a great time at the match this past saturday the wind was tricky at times wish i could make to the next match but i look forward to next years schedule and i will be adding it to my list of shoots next year
