Trying to buy the right spotting scope

My target shooting will be 500 yrds at most with a 6mmBR and from what I have read in the forum the Kowa scopes are a very good scope for the money. I am looking at the TSN-772 w/ 25x LER eye piece to go with it which will run $1000.00 on the net. Am I on the right track here with this choice.

I would go with the 821M, if you can get one, as its discontinued now. The 77s just dont seem to be the ticket and you dont see many out on the line.

Get the 821M with the 27LER eyepiece. The variable eyepiece is ok, but limited eye relief. The 50X, if you can find one, is a good eyepiece too, especially for 500 yard use...I can see 6mm holes with mine on good days with the proper backstop backing here at the house.

Thank you John. Is the 27x eye piece readily available. I talked to Kowa today and the 25x, 30x wide angle and 20-60x was the only ones offered.

Try this link: www.champchoice.com They carry the Kowa models and at a lesser price than you were quoted. Last time I looked you could by an 821 w/27pwr eye piece, cover, tripod in the 8ish money. Terrific clarity, and eye relief. You will love it. Larry in western Ky.

Sorry for jumping around like a fly on you know what but is the Kowa 82SV a new version of the 821M ? This model is in the 8ish area with 25x Kowa eye piece included or maybe a TSN 881 as it is not too much more. This is beginning to give me a headache. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, the 82 is the new version of the 821M but most of us still dig the 821M,I bought the last one Champions Choice had at Perry this year just so I would have it for my 8 yr old when he starts to shoot....yeah, thats how much I like the 821M). The 25X is the new eyepiece. I would go with the 82 and the 25 before I would go with the 77series. I would really look for a 821M either on the used market or a left over somewhere...though they are getting really hard to find anywhere now as most of us Kowa devotees are not real thrilled about them changing up the system!

You can usually get the best price on Kowas at JarheadTop, especially since Jim includes shipping and a cover in his price. He'll also give you a good price if you have a scope and/or accessories to trade. Jim has been servicing the shooting community for a long time and is a reliable vendor - he backs his product and will work hard to have a satisfied customer.

Thank you guys.Looks like the 821M is not going to happen and from what I am being told, by the sellers that is ) the 82SV is just as good . I have looked at the TSN 881 and like it for it's compact size but more money. Is the 881 worth the extra money??

Just so you are aware, the Bushnell Elite line offers an angled prism with a 25x long eye-relief eye piece as well. One of the guys on the line had one and it was really sharp and clear. Just an alternative idea.
