Truck Gun Transformation

Both stocks look great.
Is that same action and barrel in both photos?

Thank you, yes.

You didn't think I was going to give him a nice stick of wood to bash around in a pickup did you?:)

(OH CRAP, I am probably in really deep doo-doo now)

He told me to throw out the old stock, but I just couldn't do that. I fixed it up a little and he can decide if and when to use what stock.

I like your style.

Beautiful work, absolutely gorgeous rifle. Well done!

However, there is one major problem with it. Now he's going to have to buy a NEW truck. That beautiful rifle just isn't going to look right in the old one. ;)

Pdhuntr The walnut stock looks like a natural piece of wood , but the area around the thumb hole looks like a laminated area is the my old tired eyes playing tricks on me or what? Either way the stock is beautiful and you have done i very nice job. It would be a hard decision for me on the stocks cause I would want to protect the thumb hole at all cost cause it is perfect.

Your eyes are doing fine.

That stock is one I laminated about 10 years ago, and at that time I was using 4 thin pieces of Walnut for the center or core of the stock and two thicker pieces for the outside. I try to put the plain walnut on the inside, and pick some better figured or colored wood for the outside.

So, around the thumbhole, you are seeing more of the inside laminates.

Thanks.

Jim

I think the that is a good plan, the laminated part give the stock more stability and many straight wood stocks move all the time. I had a heavy barrel Ruger 22-250 that was super accurate but i had to work on the barrel channel about once a year cause the stock was rubbing. It got ugly cause the fore end was thicker on the one side, but it shot great till the barrel was toast.
