Trouble seating 130 bergers

I decided to give the 130 bergers a try, because I am running low on my JLK's. Anyways I am having problems with my seater with these bullets. I use a Redding competition seater and when I lower the case down out of the seater I feel it catch on something. My seating depth isn't consistent at all I will have 2 just right and then one will be 5 thou deeper. The bullets also have scratches just ahead of the case mouth ? I did notice that the bergers required me to back the seater out quite a ways to achieve same seating death as the JLKs.

Any ideas? Gonna give Redding a call tommorow they are usually pretty helpful.

Your seating depth is probably variances in bullet jackets and those light scratches are common with Redding competition seater.. They are made to extremely close tolerances, both of my Redding competition seaters do exactly the same thing, it wont affect anything so don’t go stressing it’s a good thing. Unless it’s badly scratching them.

Sounds like the tip of the longer VLD bullet it hitting the top of the seating stem and not centering around the bullet. If this is the case, it is solvable. here is a bulletin from this site on the topic.

I replaced the seater stems in all my Redding Competition seater dies with ones made for VLDs (though they work great with non-VLDs too):

As noted in TheSnake's post, Redding also makes a VLD seating stem for their non-Competition seater dies.

If you have the Forster Ultra Micrometer dies, Forster will make you a custom stem or machine your existing stem:
