**6.5x47 lapua barrel twist for 130 grainers**

Hey Guys,

I am thinking of building another 6.5x47 lapua. shooting the 130 grainers, both the JLKs and Bergers

Going to with with probably a 25 inch barrel

What twist should I go on my barrel. Thanks guys!

Jake

Berger recommends a 1:8" twist for the 130 - 140 gr 6.5 cal bullets. Honestly, most will tell you a 1:9 or 1:8.5" will work just as well. I subscribe to the theory that too much is better than not enough, so I chose a 1:8" twist for my 6.5 Creedmoor.

I am new to this and know next to nothing, though thanks to guys on this forum, I am learning a lot quickly. Now just have to turn that into experience. I am only posting a reply to this as I have been talking to custom bench rest rifle builders recently about building me a 6.5x47 Light Bench Rest Rifle.

So far, 6 our of 6 talked to have all recommended 1:8 twist for the 130 Grain Berger, which has also been there recommendation as well as that of my new Long Range Mentor - Greg.

Jake, I shoot a 9 Twist Kreiger and 130 Berger Hunting VLD's from my 6.5X47 Lapua and they shoot lights out. That being said, if you ever decide to shoot 140's you would be better served with an 8 twist. I honestly don't think you'll see a major difference, performance wise between the 8 and 9 twist with the 130, so if I were to rebarrel my 6.5, I would go to the 8 twist. My barrel length is 24" and I'm shooting the 130's at 2889 fps. Hope thhis helps.

I use cut rifled, 4 groove, 8.5 twists for 130gr VLDs and 123 SMK in 6.5x47L and don't long for anything else (other than more trigger time). I think it's a good sweet spot for the twist, but I'm no expert. I'm at about 500 ft elevation.

Thanks guys

I only want to shoot the 130s. Nothing else. For some reason I'm leaning towards a 8.5 twist 5r

Just want to double check

With 130's ONLY< I would do a 8.5 twist.. You can shoot 140's with that twist but a 1-8 is better.. However, with 123-130gr pills, a 1-8.5 is IDEAL!

My Brux 8.5 shoots 130's well. I like the 123's better. Seirras or Lapua's. It doesn't see to like the heavier booolits.

Any and ALL 6mm and 6.5mm gets an 8 twist for my builds.

That said, a 9 can stabilize up to 140s, and an 8.5 surely will do fine, many guys use them.

I never OVER Spun a bullet, ran 66/68s and 105s alike in an 8t 6BR, both lite and heavies shot 1/4" 3shot groups - at 200 yds.....
