Trouble loading privi brass for 6.5X55

Yo Lads...

I have a Lee 6.5x55 die set...the resizing die worked fine on some S&B once fired brass of mine but when sizing the privi brass the case does no go in the housing nearly all the way and then not without a fight (lacks 1/4" or more). It may be the shell holder (I was sold the wrong holder) and tried using the 308...it works but not good.

Note...I cleaned the insides of the die housing with Butches bore cleaner and it is slick as a whistle now.

Could the primer extractor be set too deep causing the case mouth to jam against thee top of the extractor punch.

Reloaders please advise

Thanks and have a satisfactory day!
Fred

I don't have a Lee die but my Privi 6.5X55 brass works fine in a Redding die. I agree with Mike, try with the decapping rod removed.

Hey guys...you may have touched on it...I have the decapping/expanding rod really dogged down tight...I think I'll ease it and let it find it's own depth...I have thought that that might be stopping the case from entering more of the die.

Thanks and keep thinking...

Fred

I can't speak for the Privi brass, but there is a difference in the shellholder height. The .308 Shellholder (#1) is .0379 while the 6.5 X 55 (#7) is .0371 and thats in Redding Shellholders. Info only.

Thanks Folks...Got the correct shell holder and I adjusted the decapping rod to protrude 1/8 out the top of the adjustment nut and lubed the cases little more while using motor mica (I use it on all case mouths)...it still takes a little more effort than an ordinary case but I believe it is because the Privi cases are thicker.

Best regards to those that helped.
