Trouble in paradise......J&R engineering

ab_bentley

I fix stuff, sometimes....
I don't know if anyone here is aware of what j&r engineering is but I figure you can at least give me some ideas or advise towards this issue.

J&R engineering is the only company in the world that manufactures electronic checkering machines, i.e. dentist drill with a side cutting circular wheel head. This isn't a cheap machine, the package ran me almost $2,000. I ordered this machine late last year with a time frame of 4 months max wait time, I am now almost 7 months into the wait. After a few emails I recieved one from j&r engineering which stated my machine was going in the mail as of 3/23/2013. As you can guess by the nature of this thread that it hasn't arrived. Since the week of 03/30/2013 I have been emailing and calling j&r engineering, with no response whatsoever. I know someone is checking the email and phone messages as the inbox on the phone is cleared out everytime it becomes full and the emails have read reciepts attached. This coupled with the fact he had given me a shipping time frame leads me to belive he's dodging my phone calls and emails.

Is it time to phone a laywer/ police in his area or try and file a claim with PayPal as that's the method he was paid with.

The wait time isn't what concerns me, it's the fact he has misled me multiple times and won't return my phone calls/ emails. If he were to just pick up the phone and call and tell me honestly I had to wait another 4 months I would be ok with that, just no more of this BS dodging and false dates.

Again just looking for other options than contacting an authority, I know he must be busy (or I would like to think so) and don't want to kill his business as I know can happen with a one man shop when a laywer/ court is involved.

Since J&R is basically a one-man operation I'd encourage you to be patient...it's also tax time, which is always a time-comsuming activity for small business.

I spoke with them also early in March and got the impression he was swamped.

Sounds like you have all of your evidence in line for the proof-of-transaction process, hang on to it. If you go the legal route you'll be waiting another 6 months for resolution and burn any potential bridges for parts & service.

They do have a corner on the market, so I'd keep trying to work with him.

I understand he's swamped, that's not the issue, it's the lack/ non existent communication combined with the issue of the un-truthful email.

Like I said, of he called me today and said " I'm swamped it'll be another x months" I'd be ok and leave him alone.

It's just hard to let this go when I've dished out the cash and no product is on the horizon.

Again, thank you for the insight.

Is he the only maker of this product? If so, be patient. If not ask for a full refund. Hard to be cold cut. I answer my phone regardless of who it is and I give honest lead times. If I didn't all it does is make heartache. He needs to step up to the plate and stop playing games. Just my useless .02

You can try sending a certified letter with return receipt. Explain what you want and ask for a tracking number for the package he was supposed to send. Ask him for a timeline and give him a reasonable amount of time to respond. Allow him the option of refunding your money before you get paypal, etc involved.
good luck with your transaction.

I just talked to Jon's sister. He was in a major skiing accident several months ago and is in the hospital in ICU. His sister has posted a message on the home page of the web site http://www.gis.net/~doiron/ to call her if you have placed any orders. They are trying to find inventory and ship it out as best they can.

"Please contact Maryann Doiron at (617) 593-1593 or mdoiron@statestreet.com for more information."
