Hey everybody! This past Friday I took the time to drive up to Lansing to have my Savage rifle looked over by John Pierce of Pierce Engineering. I noticed some things going on and not being a gunsmith I decided to take this rifle to him and have him take a look at it. John took the time to look at the bolt face, check the head spacing, and then he pulled out his bore scope and showed me the bore of this "production" rifle. I was surprised to see how poor the inside of a factory barrel looked. Then he showed me one of his custom barrels and man what a difference. Everything that was wrong with my rifle can be lived with so we didn't do anything to it.
Where I am going with all of this is that this man took an hour and a half of his time to look my rifle over, show me around his shop, and to show me some of his custom work. This man makes a really nice action and let me tell you, when it comes time for me to have a rifle built, John will be doing the work! I am mad at myself though because after all of this I didn't even think to offer John anything for his time and I apologize for that! I don't live far away though and I will make up for it.
John is a topnotch guy and in the time that I was there I learned so much about shooting and some of the mistakes that I have been making that he should have written me an invoice just for his knowledge. He pointed out the many "growing pains" when it comes to shooting and I am grateful!
Thank You, Mike Houseworth
