trip to the doctor was a real eye opener

Whatever ya got it usually don't get better with age...even the attitude is ...iffy.
I have age related macular degeneration, and get eye injections to try to stablize the condition...
Crosshairs are wavey, dark, not on the same plane, target is blury, couldn't tell which target dot I was shootin at or if it was actually there, seemed to be an extra one, when clouds cover the target area...I'm just guessing as to where the center is.
Down to shooting in the bright sunshine if I want to shoot a decent group...things become invisible as light dims...had some floaters after the injections and reach down to pick up something I apparently dropped on the floor...but when I bent over to pick it up nothing was there.
Things change you have to adapt...and except you're not the man you used to be...but work around the limitations, where you can to still enjoy your shooting endeavors...I added more light to just about everything, and have one eye to read with ...so I'm good...still chambering rifles and doing good machine work...magnifiers and extra lights, and a few choice words from time to time keep me going...the doctor says 50- 50 chance of losing what's left in the left eye, my good one.
Not there yet, it's a good day...be thankful for what you have...it could always be worse.

Be prepared to get "readers". You may want to experiment before you spring for prescription reading glasses. My 2 for $10 Amazon readers work as well as the $200 prescription readers.
That is the biggest advantage for what I had done. They actually can adjust the lens after implantation to give you optimum vision, in my case, 20/20 with no corrective measures.

Good luck. It's now a straightforward procedure. Both of mine were done last spring with great improvement. But you will need reading glasses.

I had my right eye done on 2/16 and the left eye is scheduled for 3/8. My right eye is still not 100%, but my Dr told me it would take a bit longer than "the norm" due to the various issues I have going on with my eyes. My cataract surgeries are more of the "preventative" type to retain as much of my eyesight while the surgery is possible. If I waited much longer, then cataract surgery would have not been of any real benefit to me. I may still need glasses after the healing process is over.

Everyone is right about the cataract surgery. Today, I go in for Detached Retina Surgery. 7:30 this morning.
Hope the doc didn't have too much coffee.

Mark , get it done as soon as insurance will cover it . Ive got a few docs lined up to do mine . I’m waiting for my right eye to stabilize after the macular hole surgery . I either need to give up shooting OR start shooting left handed . I see alot of gun stock duplicator work soon .
I went shooting at our new county range , wow, nice . Need to get a little club together for us old farts .
Doc Lowe is an eye specialist, not surgeon but can diagnose whats needed and hes an old shooter !

I go for a consult with the Dr. later this morning. I have had them for a few years now but they must be growing because they are starting to bother me now, so I guess I'll find out later, but I won't wait, if they need to be done.
My shooting season starts in May and I want to be healed and ready for that.

Update, Surgery, according to the recovery nurses went "very well". Have follow up this morning at Eight.
Hoping for a Great Prognosis. I'll be spending many days flat on my face:(:(

I had my cataract surgery on my right eye a couple of weeks ago. I’m not too happy right now. The eye doc postponed the left eye until later. My cataract was”medium“ but I experienced cornea swelling. After two weeks of eye drops and ointments there is some improvement. In the mornings the vision is not good at all. Later in the day there is some improvement, but it comes and goes.

At yesterdays visit there was about 80% improvement but still a ways to go. Watching tv and reading is not pleasant. Even typing this is frustrating,

I have friends that had great results and kept saying “ just do it”! I’m happy for them. The doctor says it will be fine, just needs more time,

My expectations were set too high and thus the disappointment. Now I’ll have to be patient and hope for the best.

Just got home from the Dr., surgery end of May and middle of June.
I miss a 2 day match, hopefully no more than that.

I was diagnosed last Aug with cathartics. was doing ok, Left eye sudenly started getting worse. Saw dr yesterday and he said it is a rapid growing variety. I am glad Jackie posted again about lens i want to look into that.

Cataract surgery is life changing. I just had both eyes done at 78 years old. Result is 20/15 right (master) eye and 20/20 left eye. All I need is readers and plano lenses for my shooting glasses.

If you have astigmatism get the lenses that correct that. Cost out of pocket is about $1200 per lens.

Lately every year I have an exam I ask for them to do mine and all they say is , "Their just not there yet" to be done . I tell them to look from my side and tell me that .

I had my cataracts removed a few years ago. I procrastinated too, but everything turned out okay. When the cataracts first starting to bother me, I noticed that there were a halos around streetlamps at night. Then it got worse to the point where I was seeing rainbows around the streetlights. I had surgery after that, and I also had a corrective Lense inserted into each eye which was an out-of-pocket expense. If you are eligible for Lasik, don't get the corrective lenses installed. My eyes had bad astigmatisms in each eye, so I went for the corrective lenses. I no longer wear glasses after wearing them for nearly sixty years. One eye is 20/20 and the other is a little weaker but I can manage to do without the correction with the exception of reading glasses. I hope that this helps.

I would do it in the morning if I could, must wait on insurance, took me over a year to get them to approve back surgery that got done as an outpatient and took the dr 30 minutes to complete. Got to facility at 7 am , saw Dr at 10, home by 1
