Trimming question

I took some sage advice here years ago and almost completely quit trimming. (Except for 223 where I have a Giraud, and the chamfer is nice for seating bullets)

I never trim 6.5cm or 300WM, and every couple years, I'll trim the longest 308 brass just to keep is reasonable.

Not to say my testing good or accurate, but, do to that questionable testing, I now maintain at least .020” between the mouth of the case and end of chamber. More along the lines of , “embrace the carbon ring”. It’s (carbon ring) going to get there anyway, might as well make a little space for it…… and clean that area often!

If you measure your chamber length with a Sinclair chamber length gauge, you may find that you can cut your trimming down significantly, more than 50% has been my experience.

The chamber length of all my rifles is greater than SAMMI specs. Even with applying Sinclair's recommended safety factor using their gauge, my chambers are still about .010" or more longer than max SAMMI specs.

I trim at max SAAMI length, except with new brass which I trim to be uniform (generally less than SAAMI).
