Trimmer question

I’m looking into getting a Henderson trimmer, my question is anyone who has one is it really worth the 900? I will only be using it for 6 dasher and 6.5 creedmoor, just curious if it’s worth the money or put it elsewhere. I’m currently using a Lyman express case trim and Lyman case prep station, thanks in advance

How many rounds do you shoot a year and how much accuracy do you need

If you think you need $900 worth of trimmer to win, then by all means go for it. Anything left undone, or not done well enough to your standards, can be an area to improve.
I use a Gracey for hunting and general shooting rounds; Wilson for bench rest and PRS rounds.
If I don’t win a match, I don’t blame my case trimming tools…. Of course, I could be wrong to not hold them responsible!!!

The Henderson doesn't provide anything the Giraud will do for about half the cost. The key with the Giruad is to have your gunsmith ream solid case holders for you. He can either make them out of old barrel stock or just buy the threaded blanks from Giraud and send them to him to ream.

I get exact length square cuts every time. I have solid case holders for every caliber and just for convenience, I bought a a cutter head for each as well just so I didn't have to adjust them.

Super fast and super easy with exact length cuts every time for a lot les money.

I don’t think anyone would buy the Henderson because they thought it would make them ‘win’. I went to the Henderson from a Wilson because of time savings. If you prep brass in batches of less than 100, you probably won’t save enough time to be worth it. 100+ and the seconds turn to minutes and minutes turn to hours. It would take me half a day to prep for a 2 day match with the Wilson. Can do it with the Henderson in about 10 minutes. Not to mention the relief on the back, neck, and shoulders.

Manually trimming cases is a royal pain. A good power trimmer is the best time saver in all of handloading. I use a Giraud, but if you like the Henderson for whatever reason, spend the money. My Giraud is the one piece of equipment I can no longer do without.

+1 on saving time, effort, and aching hands, shoulders, back, etc. I’m grateful every time I fire my trusty Gracey up; ditto for my electric precision neck turning gizmo, too. The “time and effort” savings can be substantial.
Brawley (original poster) already is using an electric setup to trim cases. Is spending almost $1K to get a “better” unit worth it? I have no idea, as I have no experience with Lyman or Henderson trimmers.
Let us know what you decide, Brawley.

Since I'm only reloading to two calibers (a .308 and a 6.5 PRC), rather than get a high priced unit like the Giraud Power Trimmer, I decided to get a Giraud Tri-Way, which is dedicated to one and works the same way. It worked very well, though it's a little bit of a hassle to adjust, which doesn't need to be done much at all since it's dedicated. Since the Trim-It II works the same way with the same cutting head, I got it for my 6.5 PRC because it's much easier to make adjustments. The cost of the two is well below that $900. :D

I love my Henderson trimmer. It's not that it trims much better than anything else but it makes the job much easier. I don't ever want to go back to hand trimmers. With my hands I don't think I could hand trim enough cases to continue shooting f class.

Between the Henderson and the CPS, these are my favorite tools in saving me time on the things I hate about reloading. Chamfering inside and out and trimming with the Henderson… shew, love it.

Working 2 jobs like I do every minute saved is hard to put a price on… especially when cramming your schedule to get loaded for the weekend match. If they were stolen this week, I’d place an order for replacements next week, besides I haven’t seen a U-Haul behind a hearse lately.

Best regards,
Gene

If you only need a trimmer for two cases... I would highly consider the drill mount Giraud tri-way trimmers. For 110 bucks each, they're a real steal.

Because I can trim, chamfer and deburr in a single step. A box of 50 takes just a few minutes. I do not have a Henderson, I use a Giraud and will never go back to manually trimming, chamfering and deburring.
