trim length?

How important is the trim length and how figure out what your trim length should be?

Its a 308 if it matters using lapua brass.

Is uniform length more important ? I would assume varied lengths would vary the bullet tension slightly.

Is it a custom chamber, or a factory job ? If it is a factory chamber use SAAMI specs and reduce .020-.030, the same holds true for a custom chamber. That # should be 2.015, but if it is a custom job it could be .010-.015 shorter. Uniformity is a MUST.

The percentage change in neck grip for a 001" change in neck length is small. I've not observed problems with a .010" spread. Others will see a difference with a .003" spread. 308 cases can be between 2.000" and 2.015".

If your biggest test groups are 1/2 MOA, you may find a tighter tolerance will be better.
