How critical is case length?

Just to put your mind at ease test your trimmed brass at 600 and test with a variety of all lengths, you will be see there will be no differents in impact or accuracy!!

I shoot at 1000 and always worried about carbon buildup by the end if the last match of the day causing possible neck tension differences when shooting a longer piece of brass than maybe the previous ones.
I know in reality the wind is effecting me more than anything, but I will take confidence where I can get it!

Do you seat your bullets with a arbor press and Wilson dies???? That measures pounds per inch!! It's the only way to go

It will throw a shot out of the group at 100 yards with a 6PPC but have no effect at 600 yards. Well... OK

What about at 1000 yards? No effect there either... :o

Case length can affect ammo peformance if not consistent. Whether the rest of your equipment, technique, and choice of shooting discipline allows the effect to be revealed is the bigger question.

What can ruin your day is a case that's grown too long for the chamber in which it's fired, particularly if you load near the edge.

Others have referred to Sinclair's Chamber Length Gauge product; I'm another believer in knowing my chamber lengths. With that info I can monitor my brass for consistency (as Watercam describes) and trim as needed.

Even with the 'Helen Keller targets" I routinely shoot at having a 10-ring of 2 MOA dia. (I earned my LR HM card this season on 'em) I think everything I can do to decrease variation in ammo performance - short of developing OCD - is most assuredly worth spending time at.

;D

Congrats! That's some good shooting. There's a reason I shoot with a bipod... ;)

Thanks!

Got real close in '06 before they changed the rules (600 yds. became mid-range the next year) then again last year.

Next year I just might see fit to try the Sinclair bi-pod I bought 'on sale' at Perry last month, up front of my Leupold mounted to my Palma rifle.

Need to see what all that'd weight though, my CG INCH is one heavy action....
