trim length for 6.5x47L?

I'm looking for a minimum trim-to length for 6.5x47L cases. I know the 'max' is 47mm, which looks to translate to ~1.850", and I'm guessing take 0.010" from that for trim-to length... but I was wondering if there is any 'official' number yet.

Thanks,

Monte

CIP min chamber length is 1.8606, to the end of full dia. neck)

NOTED here that commercial reamer makers always have a plus tol. on this detail. I suggest you measure the actual reamer used and trim to a max of -.005 I've seen as much as plus .020 from all the makers on some reamers.

Cip brass dwg. shows max brass at 1.8506.

The lots I've sampled from Lapua, new brass) run 1.842 to 1.846 OAL

I've ground my reamers to 1.851 and reccomend a max brass length of 1.845 to my customers

Alan,

Thanks for the detailed info! Part of what we're trying to do is get him educated on 'precision' loading, got a piece of garden hose for an attention-getter for that part) and also see if the gunsmith may have cut the chamber a little short, which could have exacerbated some of the problems he's having. Those numbers will come in handy when we get everything laid out and start measuring things. I think his gunsmith used a reamer from PTG, but I'm not familiar w/ the specific dimensions on it.

Thanks,
Monte
