Trijicon World Championship?

Did anyone go to and compete in the Trijicon World Championship at Peacemaker Range in West Virginia last week? Would like to hear some feedback about the match.

Had a buddy go there and try his luck. He was really disappointed in the turnout. Only had 159 shooters, the organizers were saying there would be 400. I wasn't there, but heard there was only one flush toilet on the 2000 acre property and slim on porta johns. Didn't seem like a "World Championship" to buddy based on participation and quality of the venue. He said it was really a primitive, unimproved range.

Just looking for a second opinion before I decide to do this next year.

THANKS

I was slated to compete, but family emergency about 2weeks prior that prevented me from going. After talking with the folks that run the match in regards to refunding match fee's, I can say that its no wonder it didn't turn out well. If they really paid out $200,000+, someone lost their asses, and it's no wonder they refuse to refund match fee's, regardless of why..

I was surprised to read in a promotional article that the winner would be undisputed champion of the world, because it wasn't well publicised here in Australia. Presumably a large proportion of the entrants were from outside the US?

I think you will find that the range is a joke, and the people know everything ….. arrogance abounds…… close to DC…. maybe thats the reason……….. jim

They can call it whatever they want, is it their fault foreigners didnt show up?

For a first year match, at a very new range the reviews Ive read are much different than here.

50,000 to the winner, plus other cash and over 30 guns on one prize table? Doesn't sound too bad to me.

I applaud Trijicon, Peacemaker and the other sponsors and hope they try to pull this match off again next year. With some improvements and better marketing, it could grow into something big.

Now.. the World Action Pistol Championship, at the "Premier Shooting Facility in the US" Rock Castle, was a joke. They cancelled cash payouts and didnt notify anyone, didnt have side matches, didnt provide food as advertised. The competitors were watching the range being built up to the last day before competition started and then they still didnt have scores correct a week after the match.

Thats an example of a bad world championship.

Match was billed as an NRA endeavor (think standards, rules, etc). Turns out NRA was pushed out of a leadership role. Also billed as a professional shooter event...$500 entry fee, 400 shooter cap, best of the best, have to be invited, and all that. Turns out they didn't get nearly enough people, so they open a $200 "Amateur" class (find out later you could have called in to change to Amateur and get a refund...1 person knew). Safety brief emphasized a no-kidding, no-alibi rule for the match: you get 1 mulligan card for equipment or shooter malfunction, nothing more. NO ALIBIS, that's it (remember for later) Now the stages: not what was originally billed (some made up/changed just before the match). Bullseye pistol was cancelled after 2/3 of the competitors shot it...cancelled just after the Pro's shot it, and had visible misses shooting slow/timed/rapid at 25 yards. NO ALIBIS...just cancel the entire stage. Now about the "all stages weighted equally": the remaining "precision" stages were smallbore rifle (shot with a 10/22 and Trijicon optic) and F-class. Smallbore rifle was shot from 25 yards on a 100 yard target...so scores ranged from the 130's to quite a few "clean" 150's. Stage scores were obtained by multiplying the total by 2/3 for a total possible of 100 points for the stage. Competitors ranged from 80% to 100% for the stage. F-class was 10 shots, your score was your stage score (ranging from mid 80's to 99). Now compare with the speed stages. Scores were based on total time after penalties, and your "equally weighted" stage score was based off the fastest guy and "hit factor"...so scores ranged from ZERO to 100%. How that's equally weighted across stages is beyond me. As soon as the Bullseye stage was cancelled many competitors asked for a refund...prorated or complete. No chance, you've started shooting...except other shooters on the last day were offered refunds when unhappy with the match? Lots of bitter grapes for me. So many disciplines not represented, and if it wasn't speed shooting, it wasn't set up, supervised, or advised by shooters from that discipline.

Reviews are one thing if read in a Magazine. Especially from folks who say what they have to because they are under a sponsorship to shoot or are in the Business. One slip of the lip and you could loose your ride. I would like to hear an honest opinion in confidence from those same folks. So I have heard from some of the shooters who are on the Precision side of the house and they said exactly the same thing as FA18 Hooker. It was way way oriented to the speed shooters that are popular today. Bullseye type of NRA matches where very poorly represented in the event and equipment. Who the heck shoots a 10/22 with a red dot in a NRA Smallbore 3 position Match? No one that's who. Hey F class guys. What if your F- Class rifle had to keep the same sight setting that the last guy used and you could not touch the elevation or windage knobs at all for the whole match? We wont even talk about the two of three rifles that pretty much sucked. If your where lucky you got the one rifle that shot. And it was only 500 yards to boot. Shooters in the morning got the honey hole. The rest not so much. The Colt Gold cups that where sent where so bad the match had to be cancelled.
The Double Woble (sp?) Trap.. I was told 90% misses. The Profesional Shotgun shooter said it was all messed up also. ( second hand knowledge)
Long Story short I was told that it was just billed as something it was not. A speed shooting type event yes. Representing a NRA type Championship.... Not so much. Which is fine really. I don't think they should have billed it as such. Im sure a lot of folks had a lot of fun and learned to do some stuff they usually don't get to do. That alone is pretty cool.
My money was on Carl B. He is the king of a lot of what they represented there or at least what they billed it as. So when I saw how he did I thought something was up.
