Trigger pull weights for long range f-class

Reviving an old thread as I have recently received my 'target rifle'. For now I will be shooting - once temps fall a bit - load development from a bench and then from prone (pretend f-class if you will). It has a Bit 'n Andy Tacsport Pro trigger. My sporting rifle has a (factory) pull weight of 1.25lbs. I'm wondering where I should start with this rifle - with a view to starting more or less where I ought to end up so as to get used to it.

I don't hold any records, or have any gold medals so take this for what it's worth, but I set them (bix, jewel, TriggerTech) as light as I can get them, with as little sear engagement as required. If they made down to half ounce pull weights with a wind guard, I'd be shooting those. ;)

Wow. Even the 4-6oz mentioned by Dusty seems ultralight to me. Sounds like I should take mine down a good deal.

I’ve seen serious shooters using everything from 1-2oz BR triggers up to two pounds or so. I like to know when I’m pulling the trigger - a two stage set at around 10 oz is what I use. I would say the vast majority are in the 2-10 oz range.

I shoot mid range (600) F-Class open, and like my trigger pull of 8-10 oz's. I have shot well enough to be classified as a High Master. After figuring the wind/mirage ,shooting well is about sight picture and consistent trigger pull.

It takes practice and recognizing when you are doing something slightly different that is causing a shot to go wide of your other shots.

Only sharing this to let you know it doesn't take a 2 oz trigger to shoot well, if your trigger can't be adjusted that low, have it adjusted for as low as you are comfortable with.

I like 2oz. on a Bix and a Flava Flav.

The Flav scares me. I would be afraid the wind would set it of at it's lowest setting. That thing is super scary.

I use any thing from 1.5 lbs to a full 3.5 lbs... SO long as it has a clean crisp break. But I am not that good so....... lol..

As someone who is progressing through the ranks of F-class in the last couple of years , and doing fairly good at it , I started out with a 1 lb. trigger , which seemed really light at the time . And a year later , I'm down to a 2 0z. pull on my F-TR rifle , and 4 oz. on my Open gun . The Open rifle has a different bolt mechanism , and requires the heavier setting to keep it safe . They both "feel" like they pull the same to me as the Open rifle is right at weight limit , so it works for me .
Take it down gradually , as long as you are comfortable with the response . If you go to far , you'll be the very first one to know .
