Trigger Pull Weight

Evening all,

I've finally worked out some bugs on the 06' rebuild. ( New receipe and 175gr SMKBTHP) Now I have a question for you. I've been shooting F- Class, I've reduced trigger pull to approx. 1.2 lbs. This is about as low as I can go with the old factory trigger and feel safe mitigating the infamous Remington slam fire when locking the bolt down. I had it adjusted a bit lower and had a slam fire at the range so I stiffened it back up. I would appreciate any help as to a new style trigger and also what weight are most shooting 600yds with. All feedback welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Buy a jewel or any custom and start around 1lb to 11oz until your used to a light trigger. Go down when your ready if you need to. When first time shooting a light trigger, approach it from the side to feel its location then move to the front to apply pressure. Once you have shot one for awhile you will grow to it.

Thank you Arizona, maybe the 1.2 lb is about where i need to be, was thinking about a Timney trigger and get rid of the factory set up.

I am using a factory Remington trigger on my new rifle. My gunsmith set it to a pound and It feels perfect. Trying it out tomorrow. ;D I have a Timiney on my .223 match rifle and a Jewel on my other 2 match rifles. If you like the factory pull weight . Just run with it!! ;D 6 oz was really light, 8 was ok. But a pound to a pound and a half seem perfect. I have a heavy position or hold. So I can have a 5 pound pull and I don't think it would make a difference. ;D

ALL of my F-Open rifles have an Arnold Jewell trigger set at 2 oz. It is perfect for ME.. It actually seems "heavy" at times and I tried going down to 1.5 ounces. I tried to get used to that, However, I was unable. The point I am making is, is that some benchrest shooters can and do go down to 1 oz! Obviously they are comfortable with that and it works for them. It will not work for everyone. So, in my humble opinion, you WANT to get down to as light of a pull as YOU CAN TOLERATE.. It does NO GOOD to have a trigger pull lower than you can comfortably handle, neither is it beneficial to have a heavier trigger either. Find YOUR SWEET SPOT and make ALL your competition rifles pull at that weight!

It's a factory trigger. I can go lower but I like the control and feel at 1lb. But my service guns are set at barely 4lbs. So for me it's feeling of muscle memory.

I have a Jewell set at the factory 1# going to keep it there until I get used to it and then see....

I got a rifle basix trigger for my weatherby vanguard 6br and its set at 14oz atm but will be reducing it soon , the lowest my old trigger went was 1.3lb ..so much better the new one

I started at 1# jewel. Then went to Timney tactical at 8 oz (straight, knurled cylinder, adjustable axially and cant, feels fantastic, great tactile feedback). Just turned it down to 5 oz. Love it.
